Coal, Politics & Art - In Swansea's new Culture House...

Volcano Theatre presents: BLACK STUFF

7 – 18 October, Tuesday to Saturday, 7:30pm
(except 10 Oct 9pm show)
The Iceland Building, 27 – 31 High Street, Swansea, SA1 1LN

Specially created as the inaugural performance in the new bunker theatre in the darker recesses of The Iceland Building in Swansea High Street.

BLACK STUFF is a performance about coal, art, politics and a doomed search for the Great White Tip of Dowlais. It takes its cue from a short story: The Hangman’s Assistant by the largely forgotten Welsh writer Dai Alexander. Black Stuff is a show about the past and the present, and the creative images that have accumulated around the town of Ystradgynlais, featuringh aspects of the lives of Josef Herman, David Martin and Betty Rae Watkins.

This unusual site-specific performance is a grimy subterranean journey, a modern Welsh work of art and a chance to explore Swansea’s new culture house in the making!

Features real people, real coal, a real building and a few surprises. Wear sensible shoes and be prepared to get slightly grubby.
