Event Description

ArtWorks Cymru has been funded for two more years and is currently rolling out a programme of seed funding, research and networking which will run up to January 2017. The ArtWorks Cymru partnership now comprises of 26 arts organisations and artists from across Wales.

Over the next two years we will be continuing to explore the key issues at the heart of the ArtWorks Initiative, and have commissioned a team from Cognis to undertake research into participatory practice in Wales over the length of our programme.

This ArtWorks Cymru: Research event will introduce one particular method, the charette. Charettes originated in architectural design, and were used to bring about change through community participation. Essentially, a charette is an intense workshop type event, which brings stakeholders together in order to address a particular challenge within a limited time. Our charette will bring together representatives of all the Artworks Cymru partners with a diverse range of arts and management expertise, including fundraising, delivery and arts marketing.

Date: 12.30pm - 5pm Wednesday 8th July 2015

Venue: St Asaph’s Room, St David’s Hall, Cardiff

Lunch will be served on arrival. Simultaneous Welsh translation will be available for English speakers.

Facilitated by Wendy Keay-Bright and Leah McLaughlin.

The Artworks Cymru Research Charette invites problem identification from a creative point of view and is divided into 3 parts:

(1) Listening and Perspective taking. Bring together partners with a view to coming to an understanding about the work we do in participatory arts, the goals and limitations.

(2) How and Why? Using specific design thinking techniques that enable us to take into consideration the different kinds of research activity.

(3) Plans and Actions. Partners work together to explore Methods, using themes: Learn, Look, Ask, Try.
