Theatre Current’s production of the acclaimed short play, “Seven Jewish Children”, by Caryl Churchill, can be seen as part of a longer programme. Described as “An impassioned response to the events in Gaza that is empathetic and illuminating” (The Times) and “dense, beautiful and elusive … direct and incendiary” (The Nation), the piece has been performed all around the world. Also on the bill at this benefit event will be the incomparable June Tabor, Folk Singer of the Year 2004, who will, intriguingly, not only sing but tell a story. Delicate and subtle musicianship from violinist and pianist, Mark Emerson will contrast with Tony Walton’s powerful and passionate poems. Theatre Current will perform a second piece, “Palestine Monologues”, which is a dramatisation of verbatim testimonies from Palestinians and Israelis. Entrance is free but a collection for the charity, Medical Aid for Palestinians, will be taken. The event is ticketed. Tickets may be available on the door but it is recommended that they be obtained beforehand from The Rowan Tree on Presteigne High Street or reserved by phoning 01544 260292.
