Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's Gothic short story about the cursed House of Usher, this film screening is accompanied by a live chamber orchestra performing a new score by Charlie Barber.
The Fall of the House of Usher (France, 1928) is probably French filmmaker Jean Epstein's best-known work and is considered a pioneering horror masterpiece, with its overlapping visual textures, experimental camera movement and otherworldly, ethereal imagery.
