Event Description

Theatre versus Oppression announces two new courses in June/July 2011

Saturday 25 – Monday 27 June

Chapter Arts Centre Cardiff, UK

3 day workshop in acting and directing techniques using Theatre of the Oppressed

Workshop participants are taken through various exciting and alternative Theatre of the Oppressed/Boal techniques for the rehearsal process.   Characterisation and staging methods are studied and applied practically throughout. The need to understand the subtext and the real life of the character within the play are emphasised through development outside of the confines of the play.  Participants will adapt invisible, image, and rainbow exercises for rehearsal techniques.  Workshops are spent in conflict resolution training sessions and in discussions. This is often where a plan for implementing the techniques is mapped out. Participants will leave with an arsenal of techniques to apply both individually and as an ensemble in future productions.

Cost £200 early bird discount cost of £175 if booked before 15 May

Friday 1 – Sunday 3 July

Chapter Arts Centre Cardiff, UK

3 day intensive training in Rainbow of Desire:

Rainbow of Desire, principally an Image Theatre technique, which deals with conflicting needs, desires and wants among individuals and explores power relations and collective solutions to concrete problems. This is a method and set of techniques that is especially useful for teachers and educators who work with disadvantaged
populations, social workers, psychologists and mental health professionals, and community activists and organizers who are involved with marginalized constituencies and constituencies which have traditionally been the victims of bias and discrimination. Rainbow of Desire is intended to examine conflict within individuals and groups, and to seek ways to resolve those situations of conflict.

Cost £200 early bird discount cost of £175 if booked before 15 May

These workshops are open to all. No prior theatre experience is necessary.  If you have any questions please write to Theatre versus Oppression at theatreversusoppression@gmail.com For a registration form please contact us via email.
