Just finished our initial run of Godber's Happy Jack at the Everyman Theatre. The audience responded very enthusiastically. Being a husband and wife team we feel the poignancy of the passage of time, as explored beautifully in the characters of Liz and Jack. Writing about his own grandparents, he is full of awe and respect for a challenging, bygone age. Which of us wasn't inspired by one grandparent or another?

As a mission, we would like to take this play to the vestiges of old the mining communities from which it hailed. We can already hear old friends in the valleys ringing out their own version of Mario Lanz's Golden Days and not shying away from the top note as I'm wont to do!

In an age of the multi national corporate psychopath, it is essential we dig our heels in locally and remind ourselves about our inherent community spirit and humanity.
