Intriguing and complex are two words I would most closely link with last night's performance. At times surreal, sad and laugh out loud funny; Blavatsky's tower tells the tale of a barely functioning family thrown into chaos by the appearance of a doctor who is a member of the outside world or "the crushed" who forms an uneasy relationship with the Blavatsky's living on the top floor of a tower block and who they neither fully understand or trust. The show raises many questions regarding faith, the role of the family unit, beauty and isolation. It is absolutely worth a watch and switches deftly between tragedy and comedy throughout the evening with enough entertainment to keep an audience member hooked even when the show becomes at times ponderous, heavy and philosophical. Go and see it at Chapter Arts Centre Cardiff today, tomorrow or Saturday!
