I approached Theatre Design from a Fine Art background, where I explored both installation and performance. Theatre design has presented so many exciting possibilities to me. I love how theatre and fine art are so closely entwined. As a designer there is so much opportunity for creating sculpture on the stage, both with set and costume. My Fine Art training has been a fantastic foundation for understanding how important meaning and metaphor is within places and objects and this is also vital within theatre!
For me, theatre is a place where all the arts meet and combine. This is what makes it a medium so rich to work with. By creating sculpture and installation for performance I want to explore blurring the boundaries between theatre and art.
My ambition is to move away from conventional theatre and explore performance in unexpected and surprising ways, turning ordinary spaces and objects into strange and wonderful experiences.
Projects I’m working on:
I am currently working on my own needle felting projects, and I will soon be taking part in the RWCMD summer puppetry project, which I hope to write about for my Masters in Theatre Design
