With 22 years’ teaching experience, I am an AS and A-Level Drama lecturer, and Curriculum Leader of UAL's Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performing Arts at Gower College Swansea (The Acting Company). I am a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching.
After reading Drama and English at University, winning the ‘Ryan Davies Memorial Award’ and an ‘S4C Scholarship’ allowed me to further his actor training at GSA Conservatoire, which led to several years as an actor based in London. During this time, I also built up an extensive portfolio of teaching and theatre work with young people, spanning the ages of 4 to 21; I am an experienced writer, workshop leader, and director. In my capacity as a secondary school Drama teacher, I also led several INSETs for Primary school teachers on embedding Drama into their schools' curriculum, and within their own teaching.
As a secondary school teacher, historically, one of my students gained the highest mark for A-Level Drama and Theatre Studies, coming top of 21,000 students in the UK, whilst another was in the top 5 UK students.
Many of my students pursue Performing Arts related courses at top Universities and Drama schools, including RADA, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Arts Educational School, and LIPA. Some have furthered their theatre design or technical training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Rose Bruford, and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. One of these students is a twice BAFTA winner, and his design work was nominated for an OSCAR in 2015. I, myself, have been nominated three times for ‘The Guardian Award for Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School.’
An Arts Award advisor, I regularly write articles for 'Drama and Theatre' magazine.
I am an external consultant for UAL Awarding body, and I have been on the advisory board for London and Manchester's Music and Drama Education Expo, Europe’s largest conference for Music and Drama Education.
I am a Teacher Ambassador for British Youth Music Theatre, and an Associate Artist of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain.
