A Postgraduate-led scholar/artist platform
Aberystwyth University, 24th – 26th January 2014
**Convenors ** Rebecca Louise Collins, Kerrie Reading, Marios Chatziprokopiou
The Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies at Aberystwyth University invites artistic researchers to take part in A Voice & Something Else, a unique scholar/artist three-day platform that will focus on the voice and listening. We are particularly interested in questions such as: What might be in the voice that lies beyond words? How do we participate with the voice? What might be at the limit of the voice?
We invite expressions of interest around three main topic areas:
- participation through the voice & listening
- beyond the voice
- lament, mourning & performance
After the initial call, selected participants will be asked to develop their proposal into a specific format (e.g., text, object, video, audio track, performance) prior to the event. This will then be distributed to members of a small designated ‘working group’ and will form the basis for further collaboration, possibly through practical dialogues and responses with other participants at the platform in January 2014.
Instead of taking the format of a more traditional conference, A Voice & Something Else aims to privilege practice as a mode of thinking and foster collaborative working partnerships between researchers, artists, and other interested parties across various disciplines. The first two days of the platform will allocate time and studio space to the working groups to further develop their responses and practical dialogues across the proposed themes. This will culminate in an ‘open studio’ event on the third and final day of the platform. It is anticipated that there will be keynote artist practitioners to accompany the process and offer guidance and advice throughout the three days.
Due to the nature of this project, we strongly encourage audio proposals so as to group individuals according to their interests. The audio should include a short biography, a brief motivational statement, and a creative response framed in relation to one of the outlined areas (see section on Further Details for more information). The whole audio track should not exceed 5 minutes.
Please email your audio file to avoiceandsomethingelse@gmail.com by the 6th September 2013
(Second Call)
Though an audio proposal is strongly encouraged, written proposals will also be considered.
