synopsis: Rhinegold is a story of broken contracts, greed and corruption. Gods, mortals and mythical beasts battle for possession of the one thing that contains the power to rule the world. Taking Wagner’s masterpiece as a starting point, Rhinegold seeks to boldly re-imagine the classic myth featuring techno, dance, opera and even a little bit of karaoke.

RHINEGOLD IS MULTI-DISCIPLINARY, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

We are looking to cast the following characters:

ACTORS

WOTAN

Male. 30 – 40.

Wotan is the epitome of faded glory. A one time golden boy, his good looks and charm are beginning to wane. He is desperate to regain his potency.

FASOLT

Male. 20 – 30.

Physically imposing and potentially dangerous, Fasolt is frustrated through his inability to communicate his true feelings. He is bullied by his older brother.

FAFNER

Male. 20 – 30.

Brother of Fasolt. Physically imposing and terrifyingly violent. He will stop at nothing to attain what is rightfully his.

FRICKA

Female. 25 – 35.

Ambitious wife of Wotan. Formerly everyone’s childhood sweetheart she now bears the scars of a life of disappointment.

FREIA

Female. 16 – 25.

Fricka’s younger sister. Freia is seemingly naïve – one of life’s innocents – and yet comprehends much of what others are blind to.

OPERA SINGERS

ALBERICH

Male. 30 – 40.Tenor / Baritone (opera singer).

Alberich is a social reject consigned to the bottom of the pile. He is transformed from nobody to maniacal power junkee through possession of the ring. Through this power Alberich discovers his true voice to control the world.

ERDA

Female. 50 upwards. Mezzo. (opera singer)

Erda is an all seer - she has witnessed these troubles before.

DANCER

WOGLINDE

Female. 16 -25. Dancer.

Woglinde is the one remaining Rhinemaiden. The keeper of the Rhinegold – her movement captures and seduces Alberich. She is present throughout the piece.
