Art and Propaganda

In this lecture we will be examining the role of art and artists in the composition of propaganda. From its inception during the Roman Empire, through the medieval ages and into the French Revolution and beyond, governments have used art to indoctrinate populations and further their own ideologies and agendas. Some underground movements appeared in the 20th century as a response to the rigid criteria of 'Socialist Realism' and we will be covering these in detail and how they may lift up the curtain of state-approved works by offering the closest thing to the true state of affairs.
Tutor: Chris Owen
Saturday 14th July
10.30am to 2.30pm £20

An Introduction to the Pre-Raphaelites

In this introduction we will look at who formed the brotherhood and study some of the works they produced; including works by Rosetti, Millais and Burn-Jones on display in the National Museum.
Tutor: Tracy McFarland
Saturday 28th July
