Common Wealth: COULD YOU JOIN OUR SOUNDING BOARD?

We’re looking for people curious, interested and passionate about making change, to join our Sounding Board in Cardiff. The Sounding Board meets every two-months to discuss, inform, share and collaborate with us on creative productions, opportunities and projects.

We are seeking members with a diverse range of views, knowledge and backgrounds to help us make, shape and grow our work. You might be a community leader, a passionate mother or father, nan or grandad, you might be young or old, curious about the arts and theatre, or a social change warrior or looking for something new and different to do. We are interested in those who aren’t already connected to the arts, who believe in what could be possible.

What will it do for you and your community?
The Sounding Board acts as a catalyst – bringing people together, creating a network, creating opportunities in areas which have been neglected, developing leadership & artistic skills and offering entry points into the arts.

Why?
Common Wealth wants to create a movement that centres and supports working class communities to see themselves as artists, decision makers and leaders. We love collaborating and know that our work is better when we make it with people from the places we work in. We want to make work that means something. This starts with important conversations and ends with high-quality performances. We want our work to not just be relevant, we want it to be yours.

We have an exciting programme on offer, co-curated and built with our Sounding Board. Over the next couple of years we will be making a show about undercover policing and injustice with activists, researching a show about Welsh language, class and identity with council estates in Cardiff and Bethesda and delivering our free artist development programme ‘Everyone is an Artist’.

What to expect as a Sounding Board member:

• We meet for two hours (with cake!) 6 times a year for active sessions provoking conversation around our work, investigating how we can collaborate to develop ideas, continuing the mission of shifting agency and creating social change.
• You will be reimbursed £11 per hour (£22 per meeting) regardless of personal circumstances. Feel free to ask us more about how this works.
• Access to a ‘Go See Fund’ to go and see live performance.
• Paid opportunities to work on our shows
• Training in areas you’re interested in. This could be: community leadership, storytelling, creative workshop leading, sign-language. You get to decide as a group.

How to get involved:

If you’d like to be part of the Sounding Board we’d LOVE to hear from you.
Please email chantal@commonwealththeatre.co.uk with a paragraph or a short video filmed on your phone about you and what interests you about being a part of the Sounding Board
