Day 65 - Mike Pearson Interview - His Office, Aberystwyth

We spoke for an hour this morning. Cycling around the areas I picked out yesterday. I am looking for a way into this first case study. Does the way forward lie in exploring the relationship between the Persians and Mike's previous work with Brith Gof? Is it about the English language and it's relationship to the the Welsh tongue? I think back to my interview with Eddie Ladd, there is something at play here. Is there an angle exploring the relationship between NTW and the artists recruited to create the work? Is NTW a commissioning body? It hopes not, therefore it will be interesting to see in what ways it involves itself in the creative process. In what ways is this an NTW project and how is the balance between the organisation and creative artist maintained during the process? What was the relationship in Swansea? I am still to speak to Paul.

I am invited to come back on Wednesday to document a crucial planning meeting, four or five hours. Decisions are about to be made. This case study will be, after all, pretty bloody exciting!

It looks like we will spend three weeks in a rehearsal space in Cardiff followed by a week and a half up on the top of a mountain before the show opens in August.

I also managed to arrange interviews with Roger Owen and Margaret Ames this week. Anwen Jones is keen to talk, I just need to track her down. Might be worth taking another look at her book before I do...
