PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING PROGRAMME

De Gabay is a site specific theatre piece in Butetown, Cardiff in 2013. Funded by Gulbenkian Foundation.  Supported by the wider community, De Gabay focuses on young Somali poets & the tradition of poetry.

 

Step One Enterprises an innovative and forward thinking Community Social Enterprise, it was set up by a group of experienced, knowledgeable and qualified practitioners to meet the employment and social inclusion needs of society. Step One Enterprises endeavours to prepare its clients for the ever changing work environment with the added drawbacks of the current economic situation we are at present enduring. Our accomplished staffs are able to engage with disengaged clients to deliver high quality, tailor made customer-focused career planning, training and personal development programmes.

 

Community coaching is an exceptional initiative, and the first of its kind which motivates, empowers, inspires, and provides practical tools, techniques and strategies to all members of the community in order to accomplish their personal, business, professional, family, and life goals.  Community Coaching also provides to those who experience it the necessary skills and knowledge to play an effective role in the participation of the workforce.

 

Personal Development and Leadership programme is a unique package consists of a number of training sessions which include:-

  1. Skills Audit
  2. Goal-Setting Made Simple
  3. State Management
  4. Time Management
  5. Communication Skills
  6. Leadership Skills
  7. Mentoring Skills     

The Training programme will be delivered Monday 5th of Nov through to Wednesday 14th of Nov 2012. 

All sessions will be held at 3rd Floor, 113/116 Bute Street, Cardiff Bay CF10 5EQ

1. Skills audit 

A skill audit is a review of your existing skills against the skills you need both now and in near future.  It can help you identify your existing skills, identify what skills you may need to carry out your current work and role more effectively and to plan, develop and improve the skills and knowledge needed for your future endeavours. 

 

This session will enable learners to establish known current skills, knowledge and identify skill gaps for development. Participants will be able to:-

  • Identify known skill gaps
  • Undertake a personal SWOT/PEST analysis
  • Recognise current skills and knowledge
  • Identify future aspirations
  • Develop an IAP to close the skill gap 

This session will be delivered on: 4th November 2012, at 5 – 8 pm 

2. Goal setting

Goal setting is the process of deciding what you want to accomplish and devising a plan to achieve the result you desire.  Goal Setting is one of the most important skill that everyone should have in order to become goal oriented people who less 10% of the global population. 

Goal-Setting session will introduce to goal-setting strategies which will enable learners to identify, set and successful achieve meaningful goals. Participants will be able to:-

  • identify where they are now and where they want to be in 6 months, 1 year and  5 years
  • Set short term as well as long term meaningful goals
  • Utilize a goal setting model for both work and personal development while differentiating between realistic and unrealistic goals

 This session will be delivered on: 5th November 2012, at 5 – 8 pm  

3. State management

State Management is about utilising many skills and strategies for effecting positive changes to human consciousness. Therefore, if you can change your state of mind, you can change a behavior, thereby changing your life.  Resourceful state will able you to reconnect to a positive and powerful experience can give confidence and build self-esteem, empowering a person to believe in themselves and in their potential.

 

This session will assist the learners to understand, develop and maintain a resourceful State of Mind in order to unburden/declutter to perform to their utmost potential. At the end of session, learners will be able to:-

  • Understand the power of operating from a resourceful state of mind
  • Declutter their mind
  • Establish their most resourceful State of Mind
  • Manage their State of Mind effectively 

This session will be delivered on: 6th November 2012, at 5 – 8 pm

4. Time management

Time management is defined as systematic, priority-based structuring of time allocation and distribution among competing demands. Since time cannot be stored, and its availability can neither be increased beyond nor decreased from the 24 hours, the term 'time budgeting' is said to be the more appropriate one.

Time Management refers to managing time effectively so that the right time is allocated to the right activity.  Effective time management allows individuals to assign specific time slots to activities as per their importance.  Time Management refers to making the best use of time as time is always limited. Time management is a life management.

This session will enable participants to recognise the importance and significance of time management, therefore the participants will be able to organise their time effectively and efficiently to achieve their goals. Participants will be able to:-

  • identify the impact of efficient and wasteful time management
  • recognise  the importance and significance of time management
  • organise time effectively, efficiently and resourcefully 

This session will be delivered on: 7th November 2012, at 5 – 8 pm 

5. Communication Skills

Communication skill is the process of sharing or conveying information, thoughts and feelings between people through speaking, writing and body language.   

This session will enable participants to better understand the power of effective communication in order to articulate and communicate effectively with their peers, colleagues, audience, and other professionals, therefore participants will be able to:-

  • understand the power of effective communication
  • recognise  the importance and significance of effective communication skills
  • utilise  communication techniques  to articulate and communicate elegantly  

This session will be delivered on: 12th November 2012, at 5 – 8 pm

6. Leadership skills

Leadership is the ability to direct people, more important, to have those people to accept that direction.  This session will enable participants to better understand the roles and responsibilities of leadership in order to manage and maintain an efficient, effective, and coherent environment for all. The participants will be able to:- 

  • gain better understanding of a leader's responsibilities
  • understand how to maintain an efficient, effective, and motivated team
  • maximize their team performance by understanding human behaviour and focusing on the needs of the individual and the team
  • improve your ability to communicate with the team and your customers
  • strengthen your techniques for managing the performance of the team 

This session will be delivered on: 13th November 2012, at 5 – 8 pm 

7.    Mentoring Skills.

Mentoring is a powerful personal development and empowerment tool. It is an effective way of helping people to progress in their careers. It is a partnership between two people (mentor and mentee) normally working in a similar field or sharing similar experiences. It is a helpful relationship based upon mutual trust and respect.

 

This session aims to equip the participant with the knowledge and skills to mentor others. This is achieved through providing insight into the process of mentoring and teaching the essential mentoring skills. The participants will be able to:- 

  • define the role of  peer mentor within their context
  •  list key skills and values required by a peer mentor
  •  explain what  active listening is and why  it is a valuable skill for a peer mentor
  •  identify  key communication strategies to use in mentoring situations
  • give feedback to mentees
  • Explain how to keep themselves safe as Mentors. 

This session will be delivered on: 14th November 2012, at 5 – 8 pm
