We are very fortunate to receive a Research and Development for my play Made in Britain about the British Dream and will be working through the texts this forth coming week.

A family in suburban disillusionment...

I have written two drafts. Draft one experimental, political, 'in your face' non linear, multi-media style which embraces a challenging theatrical experience. Draft two is linear and more naturalistic.

Written just before the 2011 riots at the time I was tapping into a society discontent with the recession crippling families.

The play explores indoctrination and radicalisation in a world not too far from ours today. Although through the workshop week I hope to explore who is doing the radicalisation as in the play we never find out who the other parties are.

But in my mind I think it is about how we radicalise ourselves, how there is extremes in society and a 'sense of entitlement'.

In this draft the parents have a non language and after meeting Berkoff I have come to understand that there are both similarities and that I may include  elements of the parents in Metamorphosis and Decadence

The 2nd Draft named 'Suburb'

A more naturalistic text and a linear structure. Still with the suburban family I have tried to write a tamer version of the above. It explores the facade and the underbelly of society where  money laundering and slavery may exist. What is the price we are willing to pay to live a 'perfect life'?

I have been fortunate to have the scripts read by Max Stafford Clarke who has indicated that I have to be kinder to characters first for the audience to buy into their world and Nina Stieger who describes it as very filmic and startling visual piece.

I am hoping the R & D will allow me the necessary time to work with Rhys Issac Jones, Eva Feiler and Gwydion Jones to improvise, devise and rewrite a final draft.

There will be a small invited audience to the reading Friday evening 19th @LLoft 7pm Chapter but if you would like to be a part of this feedback stage and see how we have developed the texts/see the scenes we perform get in touch with me here.

With thanks to Chapter and ACW
