Well, it was the right decision to have a research and planning day - about 8 heavy hail showers - glad we weren't dangling off the rock face in them. But it made us think about the quarrymen who would have gone out in all weathers with even more respect. Llanberis Slate Museum is a treasure trove of beautifully put together history of the quarries. Here are just a few of the things that inspired me:
Three is the magic number...
'The Quarrymen had a special way of counting the slates - not one by one, but three by three. This was called 'mwrw'. This way of counting appears to have come the fisherman's way of counting fish - remember, in the early days of the quarries, the slate would have been transported on fishing boats from the quay.'
