Opportunities for actors as part of Artes Mundi 5

Motherfucker

Written and Directed by Miriam Bäckström

Motherfucker is a relationship drama oscillating within a labyrinth of roles, positions and perspectives. A female director (female actress) asks a male actor to forge a character.

"Surprise me," the director commands the actor.
"Sure, just tell me what to do," the actor replies.

Two actors, a man and a woman, sit in chairs facing each other on a stage, surrounded by four fixed cameras. Behind them is a live video projection, mixing between the four cameras into one image. The live audience's perspective must shift between the actors on stage and their mediated video projections on the screen.

The roles use each other, stand in relation to each other, create each other, cannot exist without each other; if one role changes, so must the other. The two actors begin the performance as a married couple. The shifting control and dependencies, of each other and of their own desires and drives, float between acted roles and private thoughts and feelings. Humiliation and ridicule become tools and raw material.

The script has been developed over the last year and was first produced and staged at the National Gallery in Stockholm in 2011, this will be its first showcase in the U.K.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with an international fine artist on a piece which straddles the both Theatre and the fine arts. We are looking for experienced cast members who are versatile, playful and able to improvise.
