The other day I did a super cool thing, I did a workshop with Polarbear the spoken word artist and it was amazing.
A group of eight poets (including myself) were chosen to do the workshops. The project was with NTW Team and Roundhouse, we all generated a piece of work over the course of the weekend and then we filmed it in a location of our choosing.
I was super nervous because I don't really do poetry but within the first hour or so of the workshop my mind was changing, turns out I love poems. Everyone was super supportive and inspiring couldn't have asked for a better group of people. Everyone was so individual in style. It's so refreshing to meet other people that are so passionate about what they do! Polarbear was great; the workshops were so helpful. I've been writing everyday since, literally haven't stopped (except when showering, sleeping and eating but you get what i'm saying.)
My piece was a bit random, it took me a while to write and I didn't really know what to do with it, I eventually came to the conclusion I was going to perform it as if I was on a really terrible date- so when the videos are up you can look forward to going on an awful date with me.
Working in a room with other poets was an interesting experience, we were constantly feeding back our progress to eachother which really helped me. Normally I just perform what i'm going to say to my pet snail, I love him dearly but unfortunately he's not the most responsive audience. We did writing exercises in pairs which was something I found challenging but I do want to work on that, i'd love to do a bit of collaboration.
I'm still on a massive high, I loved the experience so much, I'm just so inspired, i'm like a sponge; just soaking everything in. This whole speaking words on stage thing is definitely something I want to develop and explore.
love, Cerian x
