Review, High Society, Wales Millennium Center, 3rd Age Critic Lynette Baxter.

Read a good book, see a good movie and you cannot forget it, this production of High Society was unfortunately very forgettable. The production was so slow that a few times I was looking at my watch thinking is this nearly over and after the interval I noticed some of the audience didn't return.

I thought the singing was OK, Michael Praed playing the role of Dexter Haven was a little off key at times and Sophie Bould who played Tracy Lord just made the top notes.Thankfully the arrival of Uncle Willie played by Teddy Kempner and the wonderful chorus line really helped hold the production together.

After the interval it seemed a little better but once again towards the end of the production it dragged out with a few more songs that I and the rest of the audience didn't appear to know. The actual music was of course brilliantly conducted and the set and costume design was spot on.

Are we comparing, this musical to the 1956 American film starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, and Frank Sinatra that’s the question as the critic that I must ask. In my response in the areas that the the film sparkled with hummable tunes this stage production didn't unfortunately hit the high notes, in response to this production, High Society I think not.

(Lynette cant access a computer so I have posted her review on her behalf)
