Its really important for me as a theatre maker and writer to work in welsh, but I'm only 2nd language...so I had my play adapted and translated. Its been an enlightening process and has transferred easily into welsh, its brings so much to the performance and the plays themes. It makes me feel closer to my roots. We should endeavor to work bilingually and also have more surtitles in the welsh language.
Priodferch Utah opens tomorrow night @ Chapter till Sat, a welsh adaptation of my play by Sharon Morgan, hope to see you there

great stuff
Good luck with it - doing two versions is very interesting. I did a Welsh version recently of a play I'd written in English - it was a fascinating experience, as there was so much that you had to rethink because it gave a different vibe from the original, and there was a lot of things that kind of crept into the Welsh version that were absent from the English version. A little thing about prejudice in English about a river being flooded suddenly turned very political in Welsh and became Yet Another Thing About Tryweryn.
I also did a short piece in Welsh a while back, and the people who saw it who speak some Welsh found it very interesting, because, there were parts they did understand and parts they didn't - which worked quite well being as the character was not able to articulate very well what was happening to her.
I hope Priodferch Utah goes well.
