Hel defaid o'r mynydd

Its been a very interesting and varied week 2 rehearsal on The Gathering/ Yr Helfa.  On Tuesday morning we joined the shepherds for the real gathering at Hafod y Llan.  What an experience seeing the shepherds and dogs gathering the sheep off the mountains on a beautiful summers day. The whistles,  the calling, the patterns of the flock on the mountain and the strong strides of the shepherds. An unforgettable morning seeing an old skill and an old tradition still an essential part of the shepherds life today.  

Moving this week from rehearsal space out on to the vast landscape as expected has not been without its challenges.  What interested me on Friday was the different sound effects the mountains and the heap of slate have on the actors voices depending on their location.  The actors individual installations are very beautiful in their stunning settings.

Its been a very exiting week in the art and technical department as they reveal some of the visual elements of the production from the projections, red carpets, clouds of wool to poetry written on slate and stone. There is also a community element to the production and this week I met the children from the local school Ysgol Beddgelert and led them on a walk around Hafod y Llan and explained their role within the show. I also met the band members of Seindorf Arian Deiniolen Silver Band and saw them practice in the band hut. The band have a very important sound and visual role to play on the mountain within the show. Both community groups are very exited and looking forward to being a part of a NTW production.
