My Big Fat Cowpat Wedding by Sayan Kent at Various/ touring

October 25, 2016 at 7pm to October 30, 2016 at 9pm
You are invited to join the guests at Clare and Arjun’s wedding reception. All their friends and family will be there. A celebration of a mixed marriage between a girl from the country and a boy from the city.  What could possibly go wrong?  Of course plenty does in this fast moving comedy drama full of misunderstanding and mishaps with plenty of neat twists and a Bhangra dance for everyone to join in at the end.  Everyone loves a wedding don’t they?25 Oct 7.00pm  All Saints Church Hall Rhys…See More

Giving and Receiving Ideas

I know creatives tend to keep their ideas to themselves for fear of someone else nicking the idea and running with it. And I know you can't copyright ideas, which is scary when you've come up with something really exciting. But I went to my first NTW TEAM Workout session yesterday, and in discussing other people's projects and ideas I came away with loads of ideas of my own. These weren't nabbed from other people, they just grew out of conversations about other people's work. And I love that…See More

Creating Creative Processes

The title of this could also be 'How I Write, and How I Want to Write'.My training in college was all about developing work through improvisation over a long period, but that model is an expensive one if you're looking at a professional production, and I do shy away from asking creatives to work for free just to gain experience. But as a writer, building a complete world with characters and a socially relevant story arc all by myself is a tricky thing to do. Over the past few years I've…See More

What I do:
Playwright and writing tutor
A little more about me:
Born and raised in Cardiff, I trained as an actor, but dallied with wrestling and nude underwater modelling before writing science theatre for schools for many years. Since moving back to theatre work my first critical success was ‘The Mysterious Gentleman’ a play incorporating stage magic effects, produced at the Cheltenham Playhouse. I'm currently working on an Arts Council England funded play with music called ‘The Secret Life of Dads’, for the Guildhall in Gloucester. I also won the Writer's Guild award for theatre encouragement for my work with a group of playwrights in Gloucester.
Location:
Gloucester
Projects I’m working on:
'The Secret Life of Dads' is a comedy about growing up.
