CASTING BREAKDOWN
STORM 2: THINGS COME APART
Theatre-makers Mike Pearson & Mike Brookes, who have created some of National Theatre Wales’ most critically-acclaimed work to date begin an extraordinary, three-year collaboration with NTW in 2018.
The Storm Cycle will be a series of six productions conceived, designed and directed by Pearson & Brookes. These multimedia works will be performed at different locations across Wales, at a variety of scales and sizes, and will explore two key themes; truth and testimony. They will culminate in 2020 with the creation of a major, new, large-scale production for NTW’s 10th anniversary programme.
There is a storm coming…
We live in tempestuous times: an era of climatic and environmental uncertainty and of
social and political upheaval. Perhaps it was always so.
But what new forms can theatre develop and adopt: to engage with and to reflect the temper of our times?
An urgent theatre: fit for purpose, addressing and expressing our present realities
Of living in the eye of the storm
WE ARE NOW CASTING FOR STORM 2: THINGS COME APART
STORM 2: THINGS COME APART will be a vivid evocation of the Cardiff riots of June 1919 – as reported in the local press ('Wild Scenes at Cardiff', South Wales Echo, Thursday 12 June 1919).
It will be created entirely in Cardiff and staged at a city centre location, close to the ‘storm centre’ of events, and with the performers in an intimate relationship with the audience. The work will create a vivid impression of what happened just outside the door, on the landscape we still walk, 100 years ago.
STORM 2: THINGS COME APART will be rehearsed quickly and presented in 4 performances.
The cast will consist of 3 narrators and several on-stage scenic operators.
Performers won’t need to memorise the text, as it will be read live from iPads.
It is desirable that performers have experience in radio, film, television and/or in theatre productions that have employed combinations of media and/or that they have been involved in processes of devising and collective creativity.
Strong, versatile voices are important and an ability to read and deliver text quickly, dynamically and with emotional depth.
Rehearsal will involve not only developing vocal modes appropriate for animating and delivering the text in an immediate and engaging manner but also in learning a choreography that will include the integration of period maps and photographs.
PRODUCTION DATES:
Rehearsals in Cardiff from Monday 12 March 2018
Performances from Wednesday 21st March to Saturday 24 March
VENUE:
Tabernacl Chapel Vestry, The Hayes, Cardiff
RENUMERATION: Company wage of £570 per week rehearse and play.
Relocation, commuting or touring allowance, when applicable, will be paid in line with UK Theatre / Equity Subsidised Agreement Rates for 2017-19
AUDITION WORKSHOPS WILL TAKE PLACE IN CARDIFF ON MONDAY 11TH DECEMBER

ROLE 2
We are looking to cast one actor of any gender, aged 20-40, of Somali/Yemeni descent to be a narrator/performer. Given the nature of the production and Mike Pearson & Mike Brooke's creative process, we are looking for a skilful self-reliant performer who would embrace working collectively to turn journalese into resonant theatre.

MANYLION CASTIO
STORM 2: THINGS COME APART
Bydd y gwneuthurwyr theatr, Mike Pearson a Mike Brookes, sydd wedi creu peth o waith mwyaf clodwiw National Theatre Wales hyd yn hyn, yn ymuno â'r cwmni fel Artistiaid Cyswllt ac yn dechrau ar gydweithrediad tair blynedd anhygoel gyda NTW yn 2018.
Bydd The Storm Cycle yn gyfres o chwe chynhyrchiad wedi’u dyfeisio, eu llunio a’u cyfarwyddo gan Pearson a Brookes. Bydd y gweithiau amlgyfrwng hyn yn cael eu perfformio mewn gwahanol leoliadau ledled Cymru, mewn amrywiaeth o raddfeydd a meintiau, ac yn archwilio dwy thema allweddol; gwirionedd a thystiolaeth. Byddant yn dod i ben yn 2020 gyda chynhyrchiad pwysig, newydd, ar raddfa fawr mewn lleoliad, ar gyfer rhaglen 10fed pen-blwydd NTW.
Mae storm yn dod ...
Rydym ni'n byw mewn cyfnod newidiol: cyfnod o ansicrwydd hinsoddol ac amgylcheddol a chwyldro cymdeithasol a gwleidyddol. Efallai mai fel yna y bu hi erioed.
Ond pa ffurfiau newydd y gall theatr eu datblygu a'u mabwysiadu: i ymgysylltu ac i adlewyrchu naws ein hamser ni?
Theatr frys: yn addas i'r pwrpas, gan fynd i'r afael â'n realiti presennol a’i fynegi wrth fyw yn llygad y ddrycin.
RYDYM YN NAWR YN CASTIO AR GYFER STORM 2: THINGS COME APART
Bydd STORM 2: THINGS COME APART yn ail-gread byw o derfysgoedd Caerdydd ym mis Mehefin 1919 - fel yr adroddwyd yn y wasg leol ('Wild Scenes in Cardiff', South Wales Echo, dydd Iau, 12 Mehefin 1919).
Caiff ei greu yn gyfan gwbl yng Nghaerdydd a'i gynnal mewn lleoliad yng nghanol y ddinas, yn agos at 'ganol storm' y digwyddiadau, gyda'r perfformwyr mewn perthynas agos â'r gynulleidfa. Bydd y gwaith yn creu argraff fyw o'r hyn a ddigwyddodd ychydig y tu allan i'r drws, ar y dirwedd yr ydym yn dal i gerdded arni, 100 mlynedd yn ôl.
Bydd STORM 2: THINGS COME APART yn cael ei ymarfer a’i gyflwyno mewn 4 perfformiad.
Bydd y cast yn cynnwys 3 adroddwr a sawl gweithredwr golygfeydd ar y llwyfan.
Ni fydd angen i berfformwyr gofio'r testun, gan y bydd yn cael ei ddarllen yn fyw o iPads.
Mae'n ddymunol ond nid yw'n hanfodol bod gan berfformwyr brofiad mewn radio, ffilm, teledu a/ neu mewn cynyrchiadau theatr sydd wedi defnyddio cyfuniadau o gyfryngau a/neu eu bod wedi bod yn rhan o brosesau dyfeisio a chreadigrwydd ar y cyd.
Mae lleisiau cryf, hyblyg yn bwysig a’r gallu i ddarllen a chyflwyno testun yn gyflym, yn ddeinamig a gyda dyfnder emosiynol.
Bydd ymarfer yn cynnwys datblygu dulliau lleisiol sy'n addas ar gyfer bywiogi a chyflwyno'r testun mewn modd uniongyrchol ac ymgysylltiol a hefyd dysgu coreograffi a fydd yn cynnwys integreiddio mapiau a ffotograffau o’r cyfnod.
DYDDIADAU’R CYNHYRCHIAD:
Ymarferion yng Nghaerdydd o ddydd Llun 12 Mawrth 2018
Perfformiadau o ddydd Mercher 21 Mawrth hyd ddydd Sadwrn 24 Mawrth
LLEOLIAD:
Festri Capel y Tabernacl, Yr Aes, Caerdydd
CYFLOG: Tâl cwmni o £ 570 yr wythnos, ymarfer a pherfformio.
Pan fydd yn berthnasol, telir lwfans adleoli, cymudo neu deithio yn unol â chyfraddau â chymhorthdal Cytundeb UK Theatre/Equity ar gyfer 2017-19
