BLACK STUFF is a performance about coal, art, politics and a doomed search for the Great White Tip of Dowlais. It takes its cue from a short story: The Hangman’s Assistant by the largely forgotten Welsh writer Dai Alexander. Black Stuff is a show about the past and the present, and the creative images that have accumulated around the town of Ystradgynlais. And features aspects of the lives of Josef Herman, David Martin and Betty Rae Watkins.
This unusual site-specific performance is a grimy subterranean journey, a modern Welsh work of art and a chance to explore Swansea’s new culture house in the making!
Features real people, real coal, a real building and a few surprises. Wear warm clothes and be prepared to get slightly grubby.
7 – 18 October, Tuesday to Saturday, 7:30pm
(except 10 Oct, which is a 9pm showing)
