Unlearn the stuff that holds you back, and learn to free your imagination. SPARKS is a pilot project – with this and future projects, we aim to build a community of daring young people who will become the next generation of innovators across the performing and visual arts in Wales and beyond. We will be forming a new Young People's Drama Company from Autumn 2015 specialising in contemporary Physical Theatre & devised Performance, which will lead to performances with acclaimed companies such as National Theatre of Wales.
As an introduction to the new Young People's Drama Company - Volcano are holding a series of free taster performance workshops for young people in June. A unique opportunity for young people to explore their ideas, inspire one another, and discover new skills. Using a broad range of activities that combine drawing, video, photography, movement, speech and music, the emphasis will be on enabling the participants to unlock their creativity through experimentation, play and sharing, and to build trust and confidence (in themselves and one another) in a supportive professional environment.
The sessions will be led by choreographer/dancer/director Catherine Bennett and visual artist Erin Rickard, and will take place in Volcano’s exciting new Bunker Theatre in The Iceland Building in Swansea High Street. Volcano is a Swansea-based professional theatre company that has been making extraordinary theatre and touring it all over the world for over 26 years.
