Some easy to follow info about hacking and hacker ethics - might help understand some jargon / terms we come across in Bradley's story.

A fantastic day for the Bradley campaign, the UN calling America's treatment of Bradley cruel and inhumane, with the suggestion that were it not for the u.s military obstructing access they would be found guilty of torture too. Joan Mendez' statements give legitimacy to the campaign where Western Governments have avoided confronting the U.S. on this issue. Also as a footnote, our little play stared rehearsing today, it was great to hear the pay being read aloud for the first time, and to meet the enormous team behind the project.

It's all happening today around Bradley!

'Bradley Manning's treatment was cruel and inhuman, UN torture chief rules -

UN special rapporteur on torture's findings likely to reignite criticism of US government's treatment of WikiLeaks suspect'   says the Guardian: -

'The findings of cruel and inhuman treatment are published as an addendum to the special rapporteur's report to the UN general assembly on the promotion and protection of human rights. They are likely to reignite criticism of the US government's harsh treatment of Manning ahead of his court martial later this year.'

'In his opening letter to the US government on December 30 2010, Mendez said that the prolonged period of isolated confinment was believed to have been imposed "in an effort to coerce him into 'cooperation' with the authorities, allegedly for the purpose of persuading him to implicate others."

It is known that the US department of justice is conducting a grand jury in Virginia exploring the possibility of bringing charges against Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder.'

Meanwhile, in the States..

A letter which could prove v. embarrassing for USG has been signed by a 'broad coalition of media outlets' protesting the 'unnecessary degree of secrecy' surrounding Bradley's trial...

Interesting, because much of the defence case so far apparent draws attention to this very issue.

The letter concludes:

"The prosecution of an American service member for the alleged leak of the

largest amount of classified information in U.S. history is a matter of intense
public interest, particularly where, as here, that person’s liberty is at stake.
Public oversight of the proceeding is of vital importance. Indeed, the interest
in openness in this case is not mere curiosity but rather a concern about the
very integrity of this nation’s military courts — their ability to oversee the
proceedings by which military personnel have their day in court to answer to
and defend against allegations of serious offenses."

Day one of rehearsals - cast and crew have all met each other, and the cast are getting into their actory exercises - today they selected random lines from the script and strung them together... this is where they'd got to by the time I left at 3.30 :)

There's a letter here (put together by firedoglake) that we can sign to encourage the Nobel Committee to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Bradley.
