Wendy Hubbard is a director, dramaturg, writer and researcher.
My most recent project was Kingdom Come, for the RSC, co-conceived, -written, and -directed with Gemma Brockis (Shunt) and devised with the company, including sound artist and composer Melanie Wilson. This was an immersive, deeply researched and radically shape-shifting show about power, theatre and the English Revolution. ‘This is bold, brilliant work. An almost orgiastic visual experience.’ The Stage ****, ‘Gemma Brockis and Wendy Hubbard’s ambitious production for the RSC unfolds like a series of old masters. Timely.’ The Guardian ****. For more details, production images, reviews and links see Gemma’s website (http://www.gemmabrockis.com/kingdom-come)
As well as making my own work I also work as a director and dramaturg. Recent award-winning work includes directing Chris Goode’s multi-story solo play Men in the Cities (Jerwood Theatre Upstairs, Royal Court, and National tour: Winner Scotsman Fringe First 2015), dramaturg and co-director on Rachel Mars’ dissection of how envy is at the centre of how we now live, Our Carnal Hearts (still touring internationally: Winner Total Theatre Award, 2017) and dramaturg and director on Jamie Wood’s interactive clown-visual show O No! (International tour, still touring the UK: Winner Ovalhouse from Edinburgh with Love Award and BE Festival Audience Award 2015).
