Sam and I took up residence on the side of the cliff for 30 minutes. A video camera caught our inactivity as the time lapse recording documented a minutes silence, a brief period of inactivity to contemplate the closing of the ballot.
A bat circled overhead and the cliff dropped away behind us revealing the town of Aberystwyth at night. A few feet away to our right, the rocks fell sharply towards the sea a hundred feet below. The bat circled and swooped, and for thirty minutes I stood still. I regretted not placing my feet better as the pain in my left ankle steadily increased.
A group of students passed us on their way down from the top of the cliff, our presence on it's edge was, i imagine, quite disconcerting. I could see Sam's shadow, stretched tall and dark along the rocks, not moving. I stood silently contemplating my own static shape, waiting for his signal, and when it came, we ran...
