Bit of a short and sweet blog as I sit at two o'clock in the morning on my laptop in my ensuite student accommodation, which in Edinburgh terms makes me well-posh.

It's been a bit of a long day, but having been here for the last two years I have enjoyed showing off to Laura today my knowledge of where to go and what to do like the narcissistic maniac that I am. It feels nice this year having a real grasp of where everything is and I think that will help me concentrate on blogging and other aspects of the festival.

We managed to catch two shows today, a lovely man gave us two free tickets to So You Think You're Funny, in which 6 new stand-ups get 8 minute sets each, and at the end a winner is judged to go through to the final at the end of the festival. It was quite an ideal first show really, and it was good to see people at the rawer end of the business. The winner of our heat was Tom Taylor, who did a great casio keyboard playing sweater waring Geek, winning the audience over with his little nervous charm. Though, I was also find go Joe Sutherland, who played a much more hipster-esque character, but I felt he had the cleverest character as he really played the audience and the stereotype well. Annoyingly there was a 7th act whose name I am unable to find, but he did a fantastic joke about entering a bunch of horses into a race to confuse the whole event, and went on this long rambling commentary of the supposed race where 'falling behind is falling behind' and 'he's coming down the side is actually coming down the centre'. I may not have explained that to its full effect, but it was good, and I'm tired, and you know what, you had to be there.

The second show was The Improverts, Edinburgh University's Improvisation group. I hate them. Firstly, they are genuinely lovely people and sickeningly talented and doing what I want to do. Secondly, they get to perform in Bedlam which is an amazing student theatre in a renovated church, which is the one central thing I think Cardiff is really missing. That studenty, raw, full of energy theatre space. Anyway, for those in the Improv know, they did a short form piece, just various games, but it was all done with great professionalism, and clarity. In the Party Game, where three characters with audience chosen quirks come into a party, for the other member to guess, it was a real testament to their talent that they sustained the scene as the host was unable to guess two of the characters, and it was immensely enjoyable to see them playing with different ways of trying to aid him in its answer. You can always tell a good Improv group when they know how to play the game of playing the game, if that makes sense. Also, all round their accents were top-notch, another jealousy of mine.

Apologies for the lack of pictures and such, we just wanted to get stuck in today, but as a treat here's Laura looking seven on the train:

And then there's me:

And here is some audio of me, where I basically summarising the above but to myself in my room. But hey, people love this kind of thing, right?
