Hole In The Wall Theatre is going 'Home'...

“There is a magic in that little world, home; it is a mystic circle that surrounds comforts and virtues never known beyond its hallowed limits”

I have to admit that I have been wondering for quiet a while what 'Home' means to me.

I was happy to accept the place I was born in as my 'Home' when I was child.

I believe I started questioning that when I suddenly realised that I didn't feel comfortable in the country I was born in, the only country I really ever knew.

Now I have moved on.

I have moved to two different countries.

And still,I find myself questioning what 'Home' means.

To me...to everyone.

In Germany there is a word that can't be translated in English.

'Heimat'.

'Heimat' is a place where you roots are, a place you have known from the beginning, a place that you know like the back of your hand.It is more than a home, you can find a home abroad but you will never find a 'Heimat'.

In an ideal world it is more than the place where your roots are, it is a place where you can be yourself, where you feel happy and comfortable, where people accept you for who are, no matter what you do.

I actually don't think that such a place exists for me.

I'm actually not sure if such a place exists for anyone out there.

I do know though, that for some people there is a 'Home'. Maybe for most people... I don't know.

'Home' what does that mean?

Is it the actual building that we call 'Home'?

Is it the people, the community, our family and friends?

Is it the smell of fresh bread, olives and a glass of wine on a friday night?

Do we carry our 'Home' inside us and actually take it with us wherever we go?

Or have people come a long, long way in order to find this one place for them?

If so, who did they leave behind and were are they going?

Do, we ever stop and wonder?

Take it in, ask ourselve if we arrived yet?

Have we appreciated the people that went with us for some part of the way, or do we still have something to say to them?

I hope that we will be able, with the help of the audience, to answer these questions...

Hole In The Wall Theatre's new project, called (and this might come to you as a surprise...): 'Home', will be a site specific performance in Newport,in 2012, raising all these questions.

We are excited to start the first workshops soon and will keep you updated with photos and videos.

If anybody has some answers to these questions, has something to say or to show us or wants to go on a little journey back to where it all began or just wants to contact us because they love contacting someone or for any other reason, we will be very happy to hear of you.
