Joseph and his Amazing Technicoloured Dream Coat

Although this is not the first production I have produced, I constantly feel like I am coming up against new challenges- this is mostly to do with rehearsing the 30 strong cast of children aged 3- 15 years. How do you get 3 and 4 year olds to get onto stage, dance across the stage and exit at the right time whilst also ensuring they are in the correct costume, do not trip over the set, do not fall off the stage, and ensure the principles (aged 9 years+)  continue to sing and dance their way through their number without being distracted or getting in the 3/ 4 year olds way?

Child management aside, it was exciting this week to get ahead on the costumes and set... another quick trip to the theatre to assess how high sand dunes should be and what coloured light flashing combinations were possible for the numerous colours in Joseph's Coat have resurrected my excitement in this project and I am looking forward to the premiere performance this weekend of the begining of Act 1 at the children's end of term show! Keeping my fingers crossed that all the sheep get onto stage and across stage without being accidentally hit by a passing Shepherd's crook or Brother!
