Hi Carmen, I love this book, it always surprises me how few people have come across it. I read it years ago, but it's one of those books that I keep meaning to revisit. The connection between the making of food and emotion gives such powerful images. It has also stayed with me in quite a bizarre way (or perhaps comical depending on how you look at it!)...if I'm cooking and I'm in a bad mood, generally the food doesn't turn out great, or at worst it's a disaster, and sometimes I catch myself acknowledging this and then take more time and care with what I'm doing, and the end result is fabulous! This could be perceived as completely logical, but I can't help thinking it all stems from reading Like Water For Chocolate, and that emotion and cooking connection has stayed with me.

I came across the film they made, based on the book (also years ago), I think I missed the beginning, but it totally destroyed the book, the images, the concept, the characters, I think there are some things that simply can't capture what the written word can, leaving the imagination to do the rest. Perhaps I should revisit the film too...

Would love to hear where your question stems from...or is heading?
