Mark Kermode on FilmTEAM's Adam Dawson

As part of the London 2012 Festival, North Wales filmmakers took part in the HANSEL OF FILM - a relay of short films round Britain, from Shetland to Southampton and back, curated by MARK KERMODE & LINDA RUTH WILLIAMS. FilmTEAM were well-represented, not least by the amazing Adam Dawson. Here's what Mark Kermode has to say about his film...

"We were very keen when we started the Hansel to say "whatever you've got, show it to us".  There was one film called 'The Child' made by a kid called Adam, and it was a little creepy horror short.  What was really good about it was, firstly, there was a moment in it when I jumped, and I don't do that very often...

I met him afterwards on Angelsey and said, "It's great, what did you edit it on?" he said, "what do you mean?". And what he did was, he didn't edit it, he shot it, shot-by-shot, so he was cutting in-camera.  Just think about that. Just think about the process that's involved in that - you envisage the whole film in your head and you do it shot-by-shot and then at the end, it's finished. That was so Hansel - that idea about - kid, flipcam, scary idea, boom boom boom  - there it is…"
