Shall we change the site font? Your views please.

Several people have mentioned to us that they find the font on this site rather difficult to read, so we have decided to offer some alternatives, and ask for your views.

We've come up with two alternatives - ARIAL, the second VERDANA. There is an image of what the site would look like with each of these fonts below.

Please let us know if you would like us to change the font or keep the existing one, and if so, which one - VOTE HERE

Verdana all the way!

Verdana is easier than Arial to read but this font would be even better if only it didn't come across as so pale in both black and green - not enough contrast to read easily (same problem with Arial).... although the density helps in Verdana, it then comes out too small .... maybe need to think about size amd colour as well as/instead of font?
Fonts - have a look at Calibri, Helvetica, Gill sans, Lydian - not sure what any of these would look like on a web page but all nice fonts!

Thanks Robert for the clarification. This discussion is just about the community site. IMHO, on the web, design should serve functionality and usability... font choice is a real issue that affects the usability and accessibility of the site for some people. Thanks for your comments... If a change is what people would like, we will change the site on the weekend.

I find the verdana easier to see. I think that one the fonts I find the easiest is Cambria. The current font is hard to me to read and it makes me feel even more dyslexic. Thank you for changing it.

Now then, you're being politically correct and bureaucratic, but you're ARTISTS! Pick an artist you trust (a volunteer), and get him/her to rework the appearance of the page. Don't look over their shoulder while they work, and take a while to appreciate the result.

You can always get a new artist if the first one proves to be unpopular.

Tom, I think everyone is talking about the main site homepage. The floating boxes are very tricksy and don't help with navigating the main area of the site. The content and the shows that are being produced should be the main focus of the website. Let the work do the talking!

if you'd jsut asked me, without showing I would have said Arial, yet seeing the two together I find Veranda easier to see. - it's great to do something simple like this that will make it easier to see. thanks for considering it. :0)

Can people clarify whether they mean the homepage of the whole site or the community homepage?

As to why there has been feedback requesting a change of font... it is because of readability issues - some people find it harder to read on screens, and some fonts are known to be easier to view on screens than in print.

Home page is irritating. As for fonts its like a play, its the content that matters not the props !!!
