Scroll down for my personal thoughts...............
What does Afghanistan, Gaza and Bosnia have in common?
Can we create theatre as a 'tool for change', as political and feminist?
Do we need to explore the hidden stories of War?
Should theatre leave you with more questions than answers?
Can an audience leave a theatre changed? Inspired to do something...make a difference?
Its one thing I regret and that is being too young to do anything about the Bosian War. Now that I'm old enough perhaps writing about it can help stop future genocide...
I know we all believe that the victims of war is wrong etc...and you might say 'Do we really need to see it on the stage ?' The answer I think is yes!!! We need to be reminded because its all too easy to turn our backs on the world and focus on our own lives and problems, but, however bad it gets we need to remember we have clean running water, a warm house, food in our fridge and a roof over our head . We don't get shot at going to the shop to get a loaf of bread! We can't begin to imagine what is like to be an innocent caught in the line of fire. Hopefully we will never know but thats what the people of Afghanistan, Bosnia and Gaza have in common - they do know!!!
