Agreed. I was 26, nearly 27, when I decided I wanted to get into playwriting, and that's the wrong side of 25 if you want to take advantage of the producing theatres' main routes in (courses, festivals, etc.) I could've been 70 and I would've needed…

Thanks Louise. I agree that the online networks and the real-life get-togethers need to bounce off each other. We'll get the groups thing going on here in the next week or so and then build it from there. (I like the image of the Xmas office party f…

Like the network notion - for quite a while we had a writer's network group in Cardiff - where we met in the flesh so to speak.. we shared/read and discussed work in progress and debated stuff in the brewing (like the new Sherman company and NTW for…

The unused St Davids units, of which there are going to be several, sound a good idea to me - plenty of passers by and I wouldn't be surprised if the owners of the new centre would rather hire out their spaces very cheaply than leave them all empty…

'I used to save all my rejection slips because I told myself, one day I'm going to autograph these and auction them. And then I lost the box.' Wise words from James L. Burke whose novel was rejected 111 times over a period of nine years, and upon p…

Hi Sam This rejection letter thing - it's a fact of life for us writers. At the risk of changing the tone from the earlier lighter comments posted here's a few angles from a more straight-faced point of view. Early in his career the playwright and…

- clean a window - look at the moon - have a boy hug and a girl cuddle - roast some food - know that for every day you do keep at it maybe tens of others give up but you, you're still doing it - know that if you keep at it it will only take one pers…

Very much so, yes - as a wanabee playwright, critical isolation is a major problem for me, so that'd be an excellent resource.

I was going to write an encouraging comment about all the people who have been rejected in the past because they were just too original. Which is true, but possibly more annoying than helpful right now. So here's a more practical response. We are th…

What I'm good at is collecting rejections.

I'm nursing one from the Finborough as we speak, and I'm faintly proud in a properly perverse way because it's the quickest turnaround yet - sent it on May 25th, and by June 1st they'd penned their 'Egads, no' message and popped it back in the post. Well done them. I hope I didn't burn their eyes.

I've a fair few rejections on the whole. A gurt big wobbly tower of the things, and no grudging acceptance letters to balance them out. So that's the talent I'm hoping to bring to this forum. Collecti… Continue
