A group for welsh actors, writers and directors based in London who want to share knowledge, skills, handy hints and who may be interested in collaborating in Theatre making.
Hi all. Thanks for joining. Thought it would be useful to have a network down this way for any up and coming projects that people want to work/collaborate on or just to share events.
Hi Louise and everyone! Definitely a good idea and also perfect timing.
I'm doing a project with Iris Theatre at the beginning of September and we're looking for a London based Theatre Company to join 4 others for a - slightly mad - day long production of 'The Hunting of the Snark' on 1st September. The company would need to produce a maximum 10 minutes worth of material including all the text for one specific section of the poem.
If anyone's interested and would like to know more send me an email (lisawellsturner@gmail.com) and I'll send you the details. Depending on the outcome of an ACE application there'll either be a budget of £450 and rehearsal space provided for companies or a £50 fee and lots of love and emotional support!
That's great Lisa. Hope having this group helps you to find what you need. On another note, saw Chimerica last week at the Almeida, well worth seeing, and its transferring to the Harold Pinter Theatre soon. Lucy Kirkwood's script is fantastic ,adventurous and bold and the production has some great performances. Next on my list is to book 'The strange undoing of Prudencia Hart' at the London Welsh centre in july. Think it's already been to Cardiff directed by Wils Wilson who recently worked on Neon neon so looking forward to it.
The Prudencia Hart show sounds great. Definitely worth a look. If there are tickets available would it be worth discussing a night to go, maybe as an initial foray into sharing/collaborating/supporting/etc? Venue seems appropriate...
Lisa: how are you doing with finding that final theatre company? If you're still searching I know a couple to which I could suggest this to see if they're interested.
Hi Gethin. We haven't found one yet and are thinking of putting an open call out (we've avoided up to now on the grounds of the amount of work it causes). Feel free to forward my email on to anyone you know whose interested. Cheers, Lisa
Great that Dirty protest are coming to the Almeida with 'Three plays in a bag' I've booked my ticket for the Sunday and am spreading the word to fellow Theatre folk.
Yes I agree, great to have a bit of wales heading this way Gethin. I'm looking foward to it later. haven't managed to see the Prudencia Hart yet but still hope to.
Hey Kelly, I'll try and come along. Good luck ! While I'm here, wondering if anyone can help me with info on North Wales Theatre companies who may be interested in a play that would include professionals, youth theatre and also members of the community. Have a play I've written with quite a large cast that I'm keen to workshop/get produced or just need a little space and time to explore should a director be interested. Living in London I'm a bit behind with the touring companies up that way. Already tried out Clwyd. Cheers. Louise
I'm a producer and programmer at the new Omnibus Theatre in Clapham. We've got a 90 seat theatre and two other performance/rehearsal spaces and we programme a wide range of work - theatre, comedy, music, dance, spoken word, visual arts...
We are holding an event for producers and theatre makers on Thursday 20th March (between 5-7.30pm) to give people a tour of the building, have a drink, meet the team and talk about projects and programming.
It would be great to meet anyone from the London Welsh Theatre Makers group - please let me know if you are coming along.
I'm writing a play about the mining community in south Wales during the 2nd World War. As research I'm going to visit The Big Pit Museum - anyone able to recommend any other museums or resources that will give me a feel for living through the war? Blackouts, rationing...
I'm in rehearsals with The Flying Roast Goose at The Blue Elephant Theatre in Camberwell at the moment. It's a piece of puppetry with movement direction from Robin Guiver of Warhorse and Oli Smart of The Little Angel Puppet Company. It'd be great to see you all there!
Performances:3 - 21 June at 8pm £12 full price £10 concession £9 Southwark Residents
Special discount at £8.50 for preview tickets on 3 and 4 June
'A moving story about food, survival, hope and sacrifice told through the eyes of a Cantonese chef and her pet goose set in war-torn Hong Kong during the Japanese occupation. Using physical theatre, puppetry and object manipulation, this original piece tells the dark history of Hong Kong with playfulness and kitchen utensils!'
Hi all, preparing for scratch night at Tamasha Theatre Friday 20th. See the link above. I'll be trying out my one woman show about running the marathon and losing my voice that I've been collaborating on with another writer. It's a great evening and worth knowing about. Keen to meet producers interested in the project. See you there if you can make it!
I currently have an idea for a play and am looking for a writer that has experience or knowledge of law and court proceedings.
The idea is about a woman being in court for attempted murder or murder and I am looking for someone to collaborate with on the project, so I won't be commissioning the writer to write something based on my idea I will be working very closely with a writer on the project and acting as a dramaturg.
If you are interested then please do email me on caleypowellcasting@yahoo.co.uk with an introduction of yourself and I'd also like to read a sample of your work.
Also, if anybody on this group is looking for a casting director, please do get in touch.
Caley, I've passed on this to a playwright friend of mine in London who has experience in law so hopefully something will come back. Good luck with the project. Louise
