Last year, in co-production with Sherman Cymru, my company 'Roar Ensemble' had funding from ACW for research and development of our first production Maudie's Rooms. This Easter Holidays we go into full production in the amazing old Customs and Immigration house in Bute Street, Cardiff Bay. We start rehearsals next week at Sherman C with an additional actor (bringing total to 6) and some valuable insights from last time. Meanwhile the design team - with Jenny Lee and Angharad Matthews - will be working their magic transforming the old house. Music and sound from the talented Mr John Rea.
With a great team of performers, designers and technical crew I'm hoping this years 'theatrical site-specific adventure' will be even more exciting, enchanting and sumptuous than last time round. Installations, inside-out environments, weird and wonderful characters and a strong narrative, this piece promises to be a treat for all the family.
Starting out life as a story book inspired from my own childhood and family history/ memories, this has been a curious and interesting journey - richly enhanced and developed by some amazingly talented creatives!
Enjoy the alarming, androgynous Miss Sweetpea in her Garden room, with her curious companion Buddy Sprout. Meet Solomon the Sailor; Arnolfini Spillini, the frightening Sir Titus Spicketts with his spooky sidekicks, Nurses Sharpethorne and Hispit - the old hoarder Teppo Kollowitz - and the hapless Butterworth family! And most of all the lovely Maudie - whose story this really is.....
Please book soon - tickets selling fast - and tell your friends.
