'Volcano@229' Exciting new arts space in Swansea

For the first time in its history Volcano Theatre has its own home! (well temporarily!). It's an old Littlewoods Shop at the centre of Swansea's High Street 2 minutes from the train station. As well as being a base for the company and somewhere to rehearse and present shows we are interested in the space becoming a real creative hub for the city...keep reading....

Volcano's strategy for 229 High Street is to manage a versatile community arts space – not only acting as a flagship for Swansea by making exciting new work in the space but offering a place for a wide range of creative and educational projects to take place. This includes supporting up-and-coming artists, hosting community arts & educational  events, offering free performances and events, providing low-cost facilities to independent arts practitioners and non profit companies, and providing affordable community and workshop space.

The company was offered its current premises by Swansea Creative Hub as part of its regeneration project for the High Street area. Swansea Creative Hub's aim is to “create space that’s minimal and flexible and allows for ease of communication. Put it in the heart of the city, make it accessible, interesting, open to all. And to encourage people from all creative backgrounds to mix, merge and clash in equal measure”.

The Hub considers Volcano to be suitable custodians of such a space, thanks to the company's ability to generate extraordinary creative outcomes on a modest budget with a small team of dedicated staff.

If you are interested in finding out about hiring or using the space then contact kay@volcanotheatre.co.uk. We have a range of really reasonable hire charges (the cheapest in town!) designed to suit both funded and non funded projects. If you want to go a mailing list to hear about what up and coming activities are planned for the space (film clubs, workshops, socials, new projects) contact claud@volcanotheatre.co.uk.

As a point of interest - I think we have the first recycled tyres dance floor in Wales! Come in and see us. The kettle is always on....
