    Living Pictures Acting Studios 2017
The Living Pictures studios are starting up again and will consist of 11 sessions over four months. They will led by Robbie Bowman with some classes also being led by Elen Bowman.
These studios are a chance to learn, to try out, to question and to put into practice.
We focus on three practitioners, Stanislavski, Meisner and Michael Chekhov and coupled with that will be bringing in NLP and the latest in Neuroscience that Robbie has been researching as part of his Arts Council of Wales - Creative Wales Award 2016.
At Living Pictures, we don’t believe in there being just one way to create theatre, to make art, to be free as a performer. There are, however, some very useful tools that can be gleaned from each practitioner and we see this as a way to develop your tool kit and deepen your awareness of self and others.
Each session will consist of specific games that have applications to being an actor, acting exercises and scene/monologue work.
    Dates:
    February : 12th, 26th
    March: 12th, 19th, 26th
    April: 7th, 11th,23rd
    May: 7th, 14th, 21st.
    Times: 4pm-7pm
    Where: WMC (Cardiff)
    Cost:
£150 for people new to the studios for all 11 sessions
    £100 for returning Studio Members
    Quote:
I feel it's vital to continue training and developing as a working actor. The Living Pictures actor's studio enables you to explore new approaches and consolidate your work with a progressive environment in which you can truly challenge yourself. Equally valuable is the opportunity to discuss and practically address performance difficulties. I cannot recommend highly enough the knowledge, experience and confidence this actor's studio can offer.
Morgan Thomas – Actor and Theatre Maker

    Meisner Mondays:
These sessions are drop in and by donation only. If you can’t afford a donation, come along anyway. Only stipulation is that you have had some experience of Meisner repetition exercises before joining. This is a good opportunity for those taking part in the Acting Studio to practice their Mesiner repetition exercises.
The basic Meisner repetition exercises will be explored each session with other Meisner exercises being added to the evenings work. It will be a chance to get your understanding and practical application of Meisner’s work to a deeper level and a chance to exercise your creativity.
Robbie and Adam Karrie have been using Meisner repetition exercises to develop a piece of new called Say When. You will be shown how easy it is to use these exercises to create work.
The sessions were originally set up for a group of interested people to practice and lead it themselves. This is still the case, but on the nights of the (13th of Feb), (13th, 20th, 27th of March), (3rd, 24th of April) and (1st, 8th, 22nd of May), Robbie will be leading the sessions. He will also be introducing work from Nick Moseley’s book Meisner in Practice.
Meisner Mondays take place every Monday at WMC (Cardiff) from 7-10pm. We ask that people let us know if they’re coming to a session as far in advance as possible.
For more information and to book your place on the Acting Studio please email Robbie or Adam on:

Grants Available for Actor Parents and their Children

The Actors' Children's Trust (www.actorschildren.org) is in the fortunate position of being able to increase its grants and support a lot more people. We fund actor-parents, where acting has been the main part of your professional career.  Whilst most charities only give grants when you are unable to work, ACT knows that this isn't enough.

A depressing number of actors are forced to quit the profession when they become parents, simply because life becomes impossible. Earnings are too low and too unpredictable to organise and fund regular childcare. 'Free hours' barely exist for actors' unsocial work time. Schedules get changed at the last minute, meaning sudden needs for extra childcare.  ACT is delighted that our childcare grants are helping actor-parents stay in the profession they love.  Some parents welcome a monthly payment (e.g. £100 to £400), while others find a lump sum best at the start of a new job such as a tour.

Applications are processed within a month (or a few days in the case of crisis funding), and support can be one-off or continue for some years. Please help us spread the word about this resource for actor families by telling other actors. Also follows us on Twitter @ActorsChildren

ACT can help you with the following costs:

    • CHILDCARE – top-up grants can help actor-parents attend auditions, take jobs and hopefully stay in the profession.
    • SCHOOL COSTS – activities including music, sport, drama and dance lessons; uniform and kit, transport, lunches and trips.
    • CRISIS – almost every actor-parent faces times of crisis.  ACT is here for you and aims to give quick, useful, confidential support.
    • SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL / MEDICAL NEEDS – ACT aims not to duplicate state provision but, sometimes, when the statutory services are overwhelmed or unwilling, we are pleased to fund urgent assessments and help families achieve appropriate provision through an Education, Health and Care Plan.
    • STUDENT GRANTS – ACT helps in many other ways, including university, college and apprenticeship grants at 18+.

ACT does not pay for private education or private tutors.

    Please do get in touch:  robert@actorschildren.org   020 7636 7868

We first check eligibility (usually just by looking at your CV if you are on Spotlight) and we usually fund people whose household income is under £40,000.

    CASTING CALL

We are looking for two female actors between the ages of 18 and 35 to feature in the pre-apocalypse play ‘Bread’.

‘Bread’ is the story of two women on the brink of the apocalypse. Inside a boarded up house, they wait for the world to end. There’s not much to do, and not a lot has happened for a few years. But there’s still secrets. Together they are negotiating their last day on earth. Still discovering new things about each other, reminiscing about the old world, and doing what any sane person would do when faced with the end of all life on earth: Getting drunk.

Clock Tower is proud to be producing ‘Bread’, a brand new one act play from Cardiff-based writer James Sarson, directed by Miriam Dorfner.

Auditions will be on Thursday 28th September at The Gate Arts Centre from 6-9pm.

Fio are very excited to bring the rehearsals for Death and The Maiden to the busy centre of Cardiff!

On Saturday 21st October from 11:00 to 15:00 join us @ Capitol Shopping Centre and get a sneek peek into our rehearsal process!

We are opening the doors and inviting the public to come and meet our wonderful cast and enjoy some of the rehearsal process as much as we are.

Ariel Dorfman's spectacular thriller Death and The Maiden tells the story of Paulina Salas, a torture victim of a brutal millitary dictatorship. Paulina is full of fear, gripped by a secret terror that she only shares with her husband, Gerado. One night, a kindly stranger, Dr. Miranda, arrives at their door late at night unannounced, forcing Paulina to confront her deepest fears face-to-face.

    See you there!
