As National Theatre Wales Creative Associate I have been tasked with the challenge of evolving the ‘Assembly’ strand of our work.  I have to cycle across Wales, in order to enjoy, explore and familiarize myself with the Welsh landscape.  I have experienced some of the beauty on offer across the country & felt the best way to experience more would be a bike journey.  My 13 day journey will begin on 2nd September 2011 and will finish if all goes accordingly on the 14th September 2011.

However the ride will be an interactive journey across the hills & valleys, forests & coasts and fields & towns.  There will be tweeting, skyping, blogging & video diaries throughout to generate support and helpful hints & tips along the way.

I will be making various stops along the way in order to say hello to the communities & individuals.  These meetings will provide opportunity to gain insight into local history and local hospitality on offer.

I am hoping to collate both personal and communal stories, edited & presented alongside the photos & short videos used to document my personal journey.

During the stops I am also hoping to make some headway on the evolution of ‘Assembly’.  I will discuss my ideas and thoughts about what the ‘Assembly’ might become and canvas opinions & feedback from individuals and communities.  I am hoping to gather thoughts & ideas on how this becomes an innovative & unique performance debate event.

If you want to get involved why not come and:

-Join me for parts of the journey.

-Invite me to events which may be local to my route.

-Recommend places or people that I should meet along the way.

-Meet me in the local for a chat & a packet of crisp.

I will be stopping at the following places to take well deserved rests after each day at the following locations & staying at the following places, where there is question mark I recommendations as I have not found a place to stay:

I am now into day 2 - have to say hurt more then day 1 due to it being compunded by the rain and wet weather we had to endure, yes I said we- Gareth Smith joined me for the ride & having him around was a huge help- his navigational skills & fitness were much superior to mine.

So we set off on Sustrans route 4, Celtic Trail & in all honesty the first 20-25 miles were absolutley amazing and easy. We went via the Gower Peninsula & the Loughor Estuary & then Pembroke National Park.  Some amazing sights & scenary and very enjoyable.

That was until we got to to Kidwelly where it got fairly hard going with the hills which I had to say were at points so steep that I decided that only way up & over was to walk.  Then as we neared our goal of Carmarthen the rain got & us and left us very wet by the time we arrived in Carmarthen.  However once in Carmarthen we went to a local pub & got some grub and spoke to some interesting individuals.  Then I hopped on a train and got over to Haverfordwest in order to reach my 2nd destination - Druidstone.  Here I was met with a bubbly welcome and a amazing view and a sunset to remember.

So I started my ride @ 11:00 on Friday 02 Sep 2011, from National Theatre Wales office- riding through Bute Park & on the Sustrans route 8, Taff Trail towards Pontypridd. Where I lunched with some pigeons....

However once there, I found myself very lost and then ended up having to navigate the Valleys- which certainly had it's highs & lows, but some amazing views.  However once I found myself back on track I headed towards Bridgend & realised that the time effort taken to remedy my rubbish directional skills meant that a train was required in order to get to my destination on time.

On my way to Bridgend I found came across Dragon Studios and a couple of great security guards who gave gave me their thoughts and places to visit on my travels.

Once in Swansea- cycling from train station towards Mumbles was lovely- once in Mumbles I got lost again....might become a regualar occurance if today is anything to go by.

Once rested I decided to take a walk and appreciate the view and make some friends in the local- The White Rose.

Time for some well earnt rest before tomorrow morning & heading off towards Druidstone via Carmarthen & Haverfordwest.

Still need some help with places to stay in Menai Bridge, Welshpool and Brecon- anyone know of some nice places?

In reply to 'nice scenery', places and sites I have suggested will give an insight into the 'real' people of Wales that should help Abdul find new stories and new passion for NTW that wouldn't normally be heard from the central location of the city.

Hi Sarah

I will try my best to make one of those nights to see the show & speak with the performers & yourself after.  Might try & make the one on the way back, 13th.  You can maybe join me on my way there.

Hi Sybil

Thank you for your comment, the places listed are my stopping points rather then just the places I am hoping to meet with people.  The journey is enable me to get a better understanding of the landscape and meet with people to canvas opinions.  I understand the point you make & would love to hear other peoples comments or views.
