As National Theatre Wales Creative Associate I have been tasked with the challenge of evolving the ‘Assembly’ strand of our work.  I have to cycle across Wales, in order to enjoy, explore and familiarize myself with the Welsh landscape.  I have experienced some of the beauty on offer across the country & felt the best way to experience more would be a bike journey.  My 13 day journey will begin on 2nd September 2011 and will finish if all goes accordingly on the 14th September 2011.

However the ride will be an interactive journey across the hills & valleys, forests & coasts and fields & towns.  There will be tweeting, skyping, blogging & video diaries throughout to generate support and helpful hints & tips along the way.

I will be making various stops along the way in order to say hello to the communities & individuals.  These meetings will provide opportunity to gain insight into local history and local hospitality on offer.

I am hoping to collate both personal and communal stories, edited & presented alongside the photos & short videos used to document my personal journey.

During the stops I am also hoping to make some headway on the evolution of ‘Assembly’.  I will discuss my ideas and thoughts about what the ‘Assembly’ might become and canvas opinions & feedback from individuals and communities.  I am hoping to gather thoughts & ideas on how this becomes an innovative & unique performance debate event.

If you want to get involved why not come and:

-Join me for parts of the journey.

-Invite me to events which may be local to my route.

-Recommend places or people that I should meet along the way.

-Meet me in the local for a chat & a packet of crisp.

I will be stopping at the following places to take well deserved rests after each day at the following locations & staying at the following places, where there is question mark I recommendations as I have not found a place to stay:

I don't understand how these locations and this process will help to develop the Assembly "evolution". Some of it looks a bit random and more to do with nice scenery than much else. Given that both the NTW productions in Swansea were/are city centre events choosing Mumbles seems odd. But then maybe its not about making a link with NTW productions?

Sorry to introduce a note of dissent into the Forum but it would make for more interesting reading if everything didn't seem like a love in....

Hiya Carmen

your recommendations are definitely going to be checked out- why not come & say hello when I am in Mumbles.

Let me know if you can make it.

Sounds exciting, challenging and very tiring so you will need to stock up on hazelnut icecream in Verdi's Mumbles while taking in the sights of Langland Bay around the corner. If you can go via Llandeilo on the Saturday for the traditional farmers market - its like stepping back in time. In Aberaeron The Harbour Master has the best view but make sure you dip into the less tourist pubs for real stories and atmosphere, CwmTiddy / CwmTydu has a hidden 'Moonfleet' bay, a walk around the cliff from the original beach and Mwnt is reputed to be one of the best beaches in Wales and it is very special. Hope you get to try bara brith but you'll be forgiven if you give the cockles and lava bread a miss...I also hear Penderyn Gin has just won a world award so drop by the distillery for a tasting session, good luck.

Great look forward to it Carys, mustering support riders has been difficult.

Would be great when you join me to try & put me in touch with any community groups who may be interested in speaking with around that way.
