Citrus & Walk The Plank are recruiting Welsh, or Wales associated Writers/Poets/Wordsmiths to join them for a period of research and development to explore historical stories and myths of Wreckers, Smugglers and Shipwrecks around the coastal towns of Wales.

The eventual aim is to create a series of 75-minute promenade performances including art installations, bonfires and fire sculptures, processions, music, theatre, dance, and circus spectacle as an event for and with the people of the locations we visit.

We would like to hear from interested minds who would like to join us for the first stage of our creative journey.

The successful candidate will be given a brief for them to develop independently, before attending a 3-day creative residency in a coastal location in Wales during January 2014.

A fee and expenses will be paid.

This is not a commission, but is an invitation to take the first steps on a creative mission with us.

We’re on a journey, and we don’t know where we’re heading:

A young sailor seeks his chance to jump as the mast sways close to the cliffs.

Women wade in the surf, hurling scarves for sailors to grab hold.

A Clergyman and his horse brave rescues where others have failed.

A Captain instructs his crew to sew coins into their clothes to pay for their burials in the morning.

A cargo of oranges washes-up on a beach where oranges had never been seen before.

The Dollar Ship’s treasure is exposed at low tides.

The men of the small axes strip vessels to husks before they can be claimed.

Compasses fail

Rocks attract lightning

Smugglers, wreckers, phantoms

Cursed vessels

Deadline for expressions of interest is Friday 13th December

Please send examples of your work and a CV/Biography/Resume should be sent to james@citrusarts.co.uk

Selected candidates must be available from 15th to 20th January

For further information on the companies visit:

That's an fascinating question, Carmen. I wish I knew the answer!

I'm seeing a lot more technology filtering through the scripts I read... use of twitter, and social networking in general. Perhaps we're going through the digital age? I suppose it's as interesting to look at the theatre we're making as it is to think of the people who are consuming it. Who are our theatre audience, these days?

Theatre of Poverty? Protest? Outrage?

good luck with this Kath,

Question to theatre practitioners, we have had theatre of the absurd/cruelty/, theatre of desires etc...developed in the past but what 'theatre' style/trend/practised/developed are we currently going through or are individuals making???

Shock n Awe, in partnership with Choice Project and Swansea University premiered nine short films under the umbrella title "Putting People in Their Place" at The Senedd Building at the Welsh Assembly on Thurs to great acclaim. Congratulations to our young film makers and thanks to our host organisations. My personal thanks To Frances Hill who did a brilliant job editing the films.

You can now view all nine films on YouTube by following this link...

The idea was very simple; to get young people to really look at how people behave in their own environment. Hopefully then we'd all think more deeply about what is happening around us and what this says about being human. The results range from the hilarious to the profoundly personal, from fiction to documentary.

I hope you enjoy them

Shock n Awe Performance Co are devising a Christmas Review for Chapter Arts Centre entitled, "Beauty and the Beasts". Its a fundraiser for the company but I'll look to cover expenses for anyone who would like to take part. Obviously I can't have a cast of thousands, nor a writing team which becomes unwieldy, but in essence I want to make it as inclusive and democratic as possible. So...if you fancy a laugh and can rehearse between 2-15 December and perform from Monday 16 – Wednesday 18 December, then drop me a line (Musicians very welcome). Similarly if you have a idea for a sketch, or a satirical song, which sums up some part of this year then please submit it to greg.cullen@shocknawe.org.uk.

Thank you Katie Day of The Other Way Works for an interesting talk about her kind of theatre and how to get it working.
