Nice - enjoyed that summary very much.

Well let's talk later.

Brilliant! @ Jenny, totally agree with your summary, I guess it's a case of looking at logistics in order for it to work successfully!! @ Kate, that is exactly what I was getting at in my previous post, and all that you are saying is so important. Great to have this insight before next week, thank you all, and thanks Esther :)

Spent some time in Machynlleth #assembly03 and feel that this Assembly is less to do with a new Tesco and more to do with people who arrive in Machynlleth with particular dreams and aspirations for the area vs the locals and their dreams and aspirations.  Think the project will be challenging however the conversations will be very fruitful and interesting.

Excited by whats to come next week.

I believe that the control of our food supply is an issue of the most fundamental importance for the future .Large corporations are motivated mainly by financial return and controlling the markets for their own gain. Its not that I think that there are a gang of big fat baddies out there aiming to starve us, just that it is the only way that large corporations driven by capitalism can work.

Where our food comes from affects every single one of us.The more we support small local producers the more we have control over choices, markets, welfare, transport costs, accountability and so much more including what it TASTES like!

This is Rubbish have made a fantastic job of raising awareness about the immorality of food waste and made great partnerships across the food industry, they have approached the issue creatively and made it fun. How about extending that approach to sourcing good fresh food in our locality, taking the choice into our own hands by supporting the suppliers who work best for us, who we can trust to understand the needs of all of us in this community.

That means which ever supermarket comes to town must support rather than crush local growers and prove that they will listen, respond and react to our needs and continue to do so into the future.

Wow what an event #assembly03 turned out to be.  With the rain and wind at full pelt, there were points in the day where the notion of an assembly event taking place seemed difficult.  However the team came through it and put on an event which delighted and provoked in equal measure.  So what is next?  That is one you guys to consider and decide.

I do want to take this opportunity to say well done to all who were involved and reiterate that without everyone this event wouldn't  have worked as well as it did - thank you very much.

Receipt:

-       Small shopping hours need to change, to escape their historical narrow times, open later.

-       Thought provoking, good chats thanks

-       Fun, thought provoking & non-confrontational (this is important)

-       Nice to have discussion space. Worked better in some zones than others.

-       More development time needed to engage people with a variety of opinions – too much consensus to make debate possible.  Message of ‘Old good’, ‘new bad’ will turn many people off sustainability.  But nice and creative. Thanks

-       Don’t feel the pro supermarket argument was really pushed. Feels like the experience was set up to push us towards local food.

-       People in Mach are already aware of the issues with local shopping/ markets/ Tesco. It would have been good if the spaces provoked deeper discussion, but it felt like going over the same surface arguments.  But really interesting way to talk about food in creative environments…  Maybe if people from National Theatre Wales had been here for longer to learn more about issues.  Good fun! Thanks.

-       V. Well done just shows how Mach people CARE.

-       Have awakened the discussion AGAIN.

-       Would have liked to have a deeper discussion & actual debate.

-       The posters weren’t bilingual and this may have had a negative i.e. perhaps more ‘pro Tesco’ people may have come thus leading to more ‘lively’ debate/discussion.  The experiences were ‘one sided’ or provoked a one sided argument.

-       Don’t feel it moved anything on.

-       Brilliant way into an issue – allowing different opinions to surface whilst keeping people connected and having fun.  Really helps to bring out pros & cons of something and hopefully not get too polarized too early…

Well I was happy about it some people just wanted it to be a boring discussion if they want one of them they should n't of gone...

I have heard since the event from several shop owners and people in the town, some who displayed the posters, that they did not understand what an Assembly was or who NTW were.

Just a thought for future Assemblies  - maybe key people in the town and main shop owners need a verbal explanation when publicity goes out or maybe there should be an initial gathering in the town to launch the event and explaining its process? The Assembly concept is new to most people if they are not already followers of NTW.

 - or maybe as numbers are usually limited to 100 the idea to attract those who will make the effort to find out about it?

Hi everyone

quick email to ask if anyone is around for a meeting this week Wednesday.
