Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 10)

Before I begin, I want to make it clear that I'm in the middle of some celebrating.

It's our last night - I can't believe it. So we're all having a last little gathering and will be visiting some local establishments later on this evening.

I suppose as it's the last night I should start summing up our time here, but putting all of our experiences into just a few lines is near impossible. I've learnt plenty, not only about the Fringe but about the people I'm here with, Edinburgh… Continue

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 9)

Another show, another day gone in the blink of an eye.

We've literally just realised that we've been living in near luxury for the past 9 days. The 7 of us have been sharing a modern, clean, fully functioning apartment and we've even had our own beds. Amazingly, we hadn't been aware of just how fortunate we are to be in such a comfortable residence. We just had a rather long conversation with another company who are at our venue, and they asked us whether we felt the same way as they… Continue

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 8)

First of all - good news, no nightmares.

Unfortunately, Edinburgh's heat wave came and went in two days and so it's back to usual working conditions; rain, rain and more rain. Not excellent news but our newly evolved webbed feet have come in handy and traipsing around Edinburgh handing out flyers is no longer a major challenge. It seems that the general public were slightly deterred by the weather today though, resulting in minimal audience numbers and somebody else's show at our… Continue

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 7)

Today was a strange day. It began as usual, with our show at half 12 as it is every day. It ended rather unusually, with a ghost tour through a graveyard and we've only just got in.

The show went fairly well and we had a great audience today, all giving us some good feedback and plenty of compliments as we left the studio - I'm hoping they'll spread the word and maybe we'll pull in some extra audience members through word of mouth. Fingers crossed.

After the show we decided to… Continue

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 6)

Ok, so I spent all year waiting for our time in Edinburgh to arrive and it's day 6 already. I suppose they do say 'time flies when you're having fun'.

'Having fun' being the operative words there - today I surcomed to some comedy and definitely made a wise choice by seeing Milton Jones in his stand up show 'Lion Whisperer'. Entertaining, funny and without too much swearing or naughty stuff. Right up my street.

Now I'm sure I should probably tell you about how our show went today… Continue

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 5)

Today brought tears, laughter and entertainment as we caught some of the other shows that are on offer at our venue. For anyone who's performing at Greenside venue 231 or thinking of doing so in the future, they offer a great deal that means performing companies pay £2.50 for a wrist band which allows you instant access to any performance that goes on in there. I think this is a big plus as money is inevitably quite tight and the price of shows can quickly add up.

With a good variety of… Continue

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 4)

It's safe to say that we've fallen into our fringe routine very nicely. I think every theatre company can appreciate that when you've got an effective team, everything just seems to slot into place. The set now goes up with hardly a word spoken between the lot of us, everyone has their job and merrily gets on with doing it. Show time. The set then comes down swiftly and within minutes, you'd never have known that we'd even been there.

Not such a large audience today as there was yesterday,… Continue

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 3)

It's official, we survived our first show - with an audience of 15!! For those of you who are seasoned fringe-goers, I'm sure you can appreciate that this is a fantastic turn out (especially as the fringe average stands at an audience of just 4). We got in, did the show, got out and managed to receive some contributions from the audience. In my books this constitutes a success. A good start, if I do say so myself.

I've made a few 'notes to self' having been here for a couple of days… Continue

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 2)

The tech rehearsal. I can proudly say that it went well. Of course, it wasn't without some slight hiccups but we did it in the small time slot we were given and are now ready to get going with the first show.

RULE NUMBER 2: Have an incredibly organised plan for your tech rehearsal, there won't be enough time for a run.

Having successfully made it through the tech it was then on to hit the royal mile with flyers. And then the heavens opened, in true Edinburgh style. We… Continue

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 1)

To whomever may be interested, here I begin a blog that will track our journey through our Edinburgh Fringe performances and experiences day by day in the hope that someone may read, enjoy or maybe even learn something from it. It's our first time here, so I thought you all might like to hear about how it goes.

Well we're here. Arrived safe and sound. Phoned mums and partners anxiously waiting back in Cardiff to let them know how the journey went, drew on the faces of those who fell… Continue
