Hello from the Chair of TEAM Panel

Hello!

Welcome to my first blog (of many, I hope!) as Chair of TEAM Panel.

TEAM Panel is a group of TEAM members - from all sorts of artistic disciplines and a diverse range of backgrounds - who together help to shape the way that TEAM is run and how it plays its part within National Theatre Wales. It's very exciting to be part of such an energetic and enthusiastic group of individuals who all very much enjoy being part of TEAM.

The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning and Mametz are on the syllabus!

We are thrilled that two of the most iconic National Theatre Wales shows: The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning by Tim Price and Mametz by Owen Sheers, are now featured on the WJEC A Level Drama Syllabus.  Because of this, we spent a busy summer interviewing the various creatives involved in making these shows.

Gavin Porter and I travelled to Manchester to interview John McGrath, to London to interview Chloe Lamford and Matthew Aubrey and invited Rhodri Meilir, Nicola Reynolds,…

TEAM Workout & Skill Swap at Festyrefail

The day before each TEAM Workout & Skill Swap will usually find me counting post-it notes and felt tips, worrying that no-one will come, while simultaneously getting nervous that we won't have enough blu tac and sugar paper when they do. Everytime. Despite the fact that I know that the day after each previous event has been bathed in the fuzzy glow of reflecting how many people have made real, tangible progress on their projects, and the…

Community is not a Dirty Word

Community is not a dirty word”

I wrote those words in my notebook whilst en route to the Acta Community Theatre Festival in Bristol last week.

There can be connotations of the words “Community Theatre” that are less than helpful. As a working professional in Theatre I've frequently come across assumptions that…

Feel Good Friday

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee

Those are the most famous words from one of sports most charismatic players.

Cassius Clay or as the world now know him ... Muhammad Ali.

As I write this today I reflect on 2016 so far and see the greatness that has been lost and think heaven must be looking pretty damn good right now with all the great people there.

And as many of us may take inspiration from Ali's most famous words I have chosen a quote from him which isn't as… Continue

Giving and Receiving Ideas

I know creatives tend to keep their ideas to themselves for fear of someone else nicking the idea and running with it. And I know you can't copyright ideas, which is scary when you've come up with something really exciting.

But I went to my first NTW TEAM Workout session yesterday, and in discussing other people's projects and ideas I came away with loads of ideas of my own. These weren't nabbed from other people, they just grew out of conversations about other people's work. And I…

Critical Chinwag Thoughts - “Tonight I'm going to be the new me”

I came to this show with that anticipation one has when you've absolutely loved a company's previous work. I was a huge fan of “Gym Party”, which may mean I came to this show with unreasonably high expectations.

Of course, they are two different shows & I shouldn't hold them up against each other. But, some of the themes & ideas followed similar lines, so perhaps they do stand up to comparison.

Both shows set out to challenge, both the…

I’ll Sing this Song / The beat goes on…

As one song still echoes along the seafront, we head to the hills to start another…

Fresh from a rapturous, resounding final performance session at Barry, we arrive in Brecon to set the stage and introduce ‘Before I Leave’ to a new choir.

With ooos, ahhhs & eees, vocal stretches and warm welcomes give-way to booming first renditions and enthusiastic explorations of the new material. Engaging with poetry and expression in the early Spring sunshine,…
