Casting Call

CASTING CALL

Mathilde Lopez & James Tyson are looking to cast for a new play from Hong Kong by Vee Leong.

The original Cantonese version of the play produced by On and On Theatre (Hong Kong) opened in Hong Kong and Taiwan earlier this year.

This year Northern Stage, the Newcastle based theatre, took over St Stephen's venue in Edinburgh and curated a series of plays by North East writers, and North East theatre companies. Northern Stage organised box office, promotion and even accomdation.

Every year…

WalesLab - applications open

Last year we launched WalesLab, our five year artist development initiative funded by Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, offering artists the opportunity to apply for short residencies to develop an idea or piece of work. In the last 12 months we’ve seen projects happen from Castell Coch to Capelulo, Cardiff Airport to Cilgerran, and Castlemartin to places that don’t begin with C. What matters most is the ideas these projects develop and pursue, and now we're on the hunt for more projects to…

Edinburgh so far 2 . . .

Hello! From wet and windy Edinburgh!

So on Thursday evening I walked up to the Udderbelly box office and played box office roulette. I asked what the next show on was and they said The Vocal Orchestra. I cringed, as I had been hoping that there would have been something more theatrical on, and asked what the next show on was but that finished a…

Cymru* Kosova

Cymru* Kosova

By Jeton Neziraj

Sometime in the late fall of 1996, as an asylum seeker in Germany back then, I used to work in the construction business. I worked on a so-called “Baustelle” in the vicinity of Bonn. It just so happened that on one of those boring rainy days, I would work with some of the workers that claimed to be from Wales. Strong bearded men they were, these Welshmen, who rolled their tobacco…

Gulliver's Travels - Radu Stanca National Theatre of Sibiu, King's Theatre Edinburgh.

"Edgy". The word renders my teeth so. Humour puffed-up as "edgy" makes me think of Woody Allen's quip about satire not being as effective as bricks and baseball bats. English satire on the BBC, of which I tire, encourages us, say, in the face of Murdoch influence in the police and at No10, to snigger, sneer and have another pint. When Jonathan Swift reached for his pen, it became a baseball bat, and 'Gulliver's Travels' was being read 'from the Cabinet Office to the nursery'. Such is the…
