The Flavour of Falafel

So, recently I enjoyed a brilliant trip to Cardiff thanks to the people at National Theatre Wales and Roundhouse.

What it entailed was; eight spoken word performers (myself included), coming together to work on a new piece of poetry to be performed for video, all of which will soon be available on the Roundhouse website…

To Kill A Machine - coming to a venue near you

Well the first two performances of To Kill A Machine have been fantastic - the cast (Rick Yale, Gwydion Rhys, Robert Harper and Francois Pandolfo) are superb under Angharad Lee's direction. It's also a very timely piece - it's important to remember how bad injustice is, so if you do fancy a night out at the theatre, do come and see To Kill A Machine as it tours Wales - details are on the website www.tokillamachine.co.uk.

Mother Courage First Night.

John McGrath and the National Theatre of Wales started five years ago at Blackwood Miners Institute with 'A Good Night Out in the Valleys.' Last night at the Merthyr Labour Club they gave me and the rest of the first night audience a GREAT NIGHT OUT IN THE VALLEYS!

The evening started with karaoke tunes, a theme which carried on throughout the night - both in the play and in the Labour Club bar!

Dafydd James skillfully transports Brechts songs into modern age tunes and Ed…

One Note Missing (4) Step right up, test your strength!

It's Saturday evening, the performance is tomorrow and I'm auditioning for a new sibling. I'm wary about making this a project about me; my grief, my worries, my sadness. There is nothing in Paul, my memory of him, the way he handled his…

THE LAND - Sometimes unkind, often daft and almost always muddy

As part of Wales Lab four artists adventure into the wilds of North Wales for five days. We were exploring fear and courage in a risk adverse society and the importance of taking risks as a young person. This is an extract from our adventures.

Earthfall's only South Wales performance of Stories from a Crowded Room

"The intricacies of human nature are what Stories from a Crowded Room is all about. It's about love and loss, rejection and companionship, anger and solitude. What Earthfall has accomplished in this magnificently immersive dance performance is highly effective, affecting and intensely personal to those gathered to observe."

Steve Stratford, Arts Scene in Wales.

Mother Courage - Opening Night Arrives!

Here we go.  The dress run was last night and tonight the show opens.

It was great last night to see lots of interested people stopping to have a look at what was going on and asking questions about the show.  Hopefully many of them will come along to see it now their interest has been piqued.

Of course something else rather important is happening today.  It seems fitting that the Mother Courage opening night is the same night as the general election - and it's…

“A little boy from Merthyr always, always”

“A little boy from Merthyr always, always” is a phrase well known  to many a person from that town that sits at the top of the Taff valley which people sometimes refer to as the capital of The Valleys. The phrase comes from a famous son of the town Dr Joseph Parry, composer of one of the greatest love songs the world has ever known, Myfanwy.  Parry like myself left the town as a teenager but as his famous phrase so succinctly sums up once you have the town in your heart and in your veins it…

Arts in Policy

Hello, this is the first time posting and I want to thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.

I want to take some time to explain my PhD study and to open up it up to anybody who may be interested in becoming a part of it, either informally through chats or e-mail or formally as a potential interviewee or if you have an event that you think could be relevant that I may come and observe and take some notes on.

The study concerns the introduction of the arts as a…

Seeking welsh actor for Rehearsed Reading

On the 1st august I will be directing a rehearsed reading of a brand new welsh play called 'Lovely' which is written by emerging playwright Christopher Harris. The reading will take place at The Other Room theatre in Cardiff, and we require welsh actors (preferably welsh speaking) to participate. At the moment the opportunity is unpaid, but we are hoping to raise some funds in the next few months to at least cover travel costs, or pay a small fee. All performers would be required to be at the… Continue

Here's to the Ladies!

It's Saturday lunch time. I'm sat on the train from Merthyr to Cardiff contemplating the last of our Saturday morning rehearsals, the ensuing tech and opening next week of NTW's all female Mother Courage.

I'm a Mum to a teenager about to start her GCSE's, a partner, a home runner, a teacher, an actress and a pet owner.....it's an hour and a half commute either way to rehearsals in Merthyr (if I don't get a lift from the utterly incorrigibly delightful Donna Edwards) and a full day of… Continue
