One Note Missing (5) - '...a cosmic night of music, live art, performance & ritual...'

"One Note Missing..." is a performance event to mark the start of my artistic residency at Unit 61. The evening will include performances from a collection of artists I have gathered together from all over the planet; a rare, wild and eclectic group of performers, musicians, live artists, dancers, actors and poets. I am honoured to be in their company.' - Marina…

Wales Lab project starts next week!

I feel really excited to get going on my Wales Lab project next week.  We have a sharing on 22nd May at 3pm if anyone fancies coming - send me a message and I'll give you all the details (I need to know who is coming as it in a mountain location).

I want to create a sense of a small community of workers descending Tryfan Bach, a small, 60 metre crag next to Tryfan in the Ogwen Valley.

#WALESLAB Day 1 of the DIY Manual for Falling in Love with Objects

Phew!

A busy start to my Waleslab project, we watched films, created new narratives, ditched those narratives and watched films again. I wrote a love letter to an object I may never see again and imagined just for  a moment that I was seeing it again. We went in circles, on tangents, in lines. I met an ashtray I couldn't touch and felt guilty, it didn't choose it's purpose. I met a delightful milk jug I felt I was made to touch, I'm hoping it will be there again tomorrow.

I…

Thank You!

It’s just been officially announced that at the end of the year I’ll be leaving National Theatre Wales to become Artistic Director of the Manchester International Festival.

My time at NTW has been a truly wonderful experience, and the community of artists and enthusiasts I have had the privilege to be part of here has had a massive impact on me.  So while there will be lots to say over the coming months, I wanted to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone in the NTW community…

CASTING: Jerry Hermans - Showtune.......Director/Choreographer and Cast sought

Pirate Jenny Cabaret are producing the pro rights to Jerry Hermans - Showtune. It is being staged at The Gwyn Hall, Neath, which is a beautiful space for this revue.

This is an 7 hander show and very dependent on the cast putting over the 'flavour' of each Jerry Herman song/show within the piece. La Cage aux Folles, Mack & Mabel, Hello Dolly, Mame…

Welsh Gladiators

Welsh drama is having boom time. Four shows from four welsh writers from four generations at the same time.

Ed Thomas up in Merthyr, Gary Owen and Alun Saunders in Cardiff and amazingly me in my sixty first year still on tour with my latest play GLADIATOR. You've got to see the others but give us a break - touring is hard. I did my first thirty years ago and they've closed all those venues.…

My Birthday trip to Merthyr to see Mother!

So as you are all probably not aware I got another year older over the weekend. Why should you care about that? No reason at all I'm just milking it a bit. (I'm still accepting birthday presents if you're interested.)

To kick off this years celebrations I finished work, got changed and jumped on a train to Merthyr to see Mother Courage. When I got on the train was packed, standing room only and if I'm honest this filled me with a sense of dread anticipating being squashed like…

A Polarbear, Eight Poets and Copious Amounts of Coffee

It sounds a bit far fetched I suppose, but that is the best way to describe our weekend in the house of Literary Terms. At the end of April myself and seven other poets had the wonderful opportunity to sit down with writer Polarbear for three days and bombard him - and each other - with poetry. It was nerve racking. It was euphoric.

It was wonderful to have three performers representing Wrexham and the growing arts community in our town.  Over the last year or so it has been…

Polarbear Spoken Word Workshop

The other day I did a super cool thing, I did a workshop with Polarbear the spoken word artist and it was amazing.

A group of eight poets (including myself) were chosen to do the workshops. The project was with NTW Team and Roundhouse, we all generated a piece of work over the course of the weekend and then we filmed it in a location of our choosing.

I was super nervous because I don't really do poetry but within the first hour or so of the workshop my mind was…
